I just got Tamiyas "new" 1/48 Humvee and wanted to make it more up to date. I have already got Black Dogs Iraq war Humvee set, but is there anything else that I should get? I know that their offering in 1/35 needs new wheels, is it the same for the 1/48?

Thankful for help on the subject.

Hi, I would try your question on the Modern USA / Modern armor discussion areas. I think the 1/48 Tamiya's are from the first gulf war 80's/90's versions, so it depends how 'up to date' you want to go as every year there seems to be new things tried on the humvee's in regards to armoring. Maybe scratch building is the order of the day. Blackdog has a TOW missile conversion coming out too. Cheers

wikipedia has some good info

and Frenchy has good pics:

Hi again, I noticed not too many responses to this one on Armorama - maybe try the TRACK48.com discussion group. A lot of knowledge there between Bruce Culver, George Bradford and the like.

The pages on the HMMWV and some related to them at Globalsecurity.org (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/hmmwv.htm) have also recently been updated.

Tamiya's 1/48 weapons carrier appears to be a M1025/M1026 type, while they've also apparently released a cargo carrier type, which looks like an M998, but could probably also stand in for a M1097.
