Great progress Neo, sorry to see the setback. But it wouldn't mean as much unless you spilt a little blood, right?
I can't wait to see this baby with the camo on it.
The coolness factor of this "sportster" is totally through the roof!
Outstanding work.

Sorry guys... was buried w/ the end of year at work and was getting burned out trying to make the masks for the camo (have to cut three layers to match exactly and you know how that goes) so I took some time off to build a few figures.

Thanks Poky, finished some more on the dio, repairs done but still no paint.

Thanks Matt, camo is turning out be be a real pain, I've had alot of trouble keeping the masks for the thin line on the camo straight - I'm still shooting tests - have not even started on the E-5. Might have to go w/ a simple pattern to get this done.

Thanks Matan, try scratch building - you'll like it.

Hi Russ - it's moving very slow.

Thanks Richard, hope to get a few more pic's up soon.

Thanks to all for the feedback and encouragement. Hope to get some real progress done soon.

Tom, Tom, Tom, I believe you're coming at it from the wrong angle. To reference your illustration -

I would use what I call "subtractive masking". Shoot the whole tank black. Get some 1/16" tape and lay down the lines and little squares. Shoot the darkest tan. Cut geometric shapes from 3" painters tape. Put these down where you want the darkest tan to stay. Shoot the next lightest color and mask that off. Then do the last tan. Pull all the tape to reveal a full camo job. This way you keep the lines straight and all the shapes match along the edges.

Matt - Went w/ the "subtractive masking" and some regular masking.

Here it is ( a mere 2 1/2 months later):

And yes I did drop it again and snap off the notek light and the star antenna - AGAIN.

I found this build by accident when I came back from my year and half hiatus. First of all, this what if is an awesome depiction of an E-5. The software you mentioned is going to be a big help with taking on scratchbuilding projects.

Now, more importantly: Did you finish this build and can you post some pictures of the completed project? I am looking forward to seeing this little beast.

This is a very interesting build. Nice choice on the camo scheme, looks like it is going to look very striking after weathering.

I would have loved to have seen this thing in trials or action.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the build. I have not done much since that last post – I did do some detail painting and work on the base.

My wife’s company transferred her to Charlotte (which by the way is GREAT) so we sold the house in mid-May, lived in a corporate apartment (with all our things in storage) until mid-August and now we’re here. Shockingly - all my stuff is still in the garage, which is packed to the roof. I’m a little afraid to look in my hobby boxes to see what the movers did. Nevertheless, I will continue as soon as I can get things back in order and my azz in gear.

Model on my friends…

that is an actual vehicle not anything related to an 'E-5' series.
