S!
I'm wondering what are the differences between the two Centauro versions depicted by Trumpeter kits (386 and the future release, 387).
The future release, Centauro AFV 3rd series

whatever the difference between the two, I imagine the additional parts are that small that they could of been packaged together instead of selling two seperate kits! ..but thats buisness talk I guess

The so-called 3rd series should be the long hull version. So for once Roy, this is not only a business trick

The major differences between the 2nd series and the 3rd series is a short hull and long hull. I'll look through my reference pictures tonight and see if I have some good pictures which show the hull extension.

Otherwise - Blue Steel publishing has a great photo refernce book on the Italian Centauros that were deployed in Lebanon called "White Thunder". In it they describe and show the differences.

As for the Spanish Centauro... I'm pretty sure, but don't quote me on it.. they they received all 3rd series Centauros. I'll try and confirm that tonight when I'm home.

Compare the rear picture of this VRC-105 build to that of the series 2 Centauro box art and you'll see the differences. The rear of the long hull version (3rd series) is squared and boxed out on either side of the rear door compared to the series 2 Centauro.

For those who are interresting by Italians Centauro, from memory the long version could be build as KFOR version or Iraq one and the short version as IFOR/SFOR versions with rear hull add on armor (but you'll have to scratchbuild the armor).

Spanish Centauro

Italian long hull

They are the same. According to the Auriga book, the differences between Italian and Spanish are few as follows : on the Spanish version there are additional armor plate bolted to the turret, some additional brackets for ammo boxes have been fitted ot the turret, the smoke dischargers are of the Wegmann type instead of the Galix one, an additional protection is fitted to the bow belly and various brackets have moved.

Hum, I see
The short hull version has a full sloped rear hull meanwhile the "long" hull has only the rear door sloped, while the rear "wall" is vertical.
Did I am too far from the true?

The length of the hull on the series 3 vehicles is longer only by virtue of the battery boxes on either side of the rear door. The batteries were moved from inside (Series 1 and 2 vehicles had the batteries in the rear of the hull) to make room for optional seating for 4 infantry types. It should be noted that the 4 seats could only be fitted by removing the 105mm ammo bins normally occupying much of the rear compartment.

So, the 'long hull' vehicle has those battery box bulges on the back while the series 1 and 2 do not. It's worth pointing out that the Trumpeter early Centauro represents a series 2 vehicle.

I hope this helps.

Cheers - Dan

Maybe I´m a bit dumb, so be patient, but to clarify this : the spanish Trumpeter Centauro is the "long" version? I understood that it is, but want to be sure
Thanx again!!!!

As the saying tells it : it's better looking dumb 5 minutes by asking aquestion than being it your life long by keeping it unanswered

All the Spanish Centauros are long hull ones.

as my drill instructor in the US Arny told me "the only dumb question is the one you don't ask". This advice has served me well in life.
