I want to build an early OIF Humvee in 1/35, and I thought I should use Tamiyas M1025 kit. And I know that isn't a correct for OIF. And here is where my confusion comes in. There are so many different trans-kits for Humvees so I'm not really sure what to use. Since I'm not normaly a AFV-builder I'm kinda limited when it comes to reference material, so I thought there could be some kind soul out there that could help!

Neither am I very knowledgable on Humvees but I am building 2 early versions of M1025s around 2003 period. They are however using AM kits for uparmor.. so not that "early".

Also, the Tamiya kits are fine if you're depicting the initial invasion. You'll need to figure if you want to model the Army or Marine ones too..

Yup, for an early OIF vehicle, the Tamiya kits will work straight from the box. They even include 3rd ID decals to make a vehicle that was in the initial invasion.

I think the one you are talking about is the M1046 kit. The M1025 doesn't come with OIF markings. But would it be possible to use the weapons from the M1025 on the M1046 (and making a M1044...) Think I have some saved sprues from an earlier M1025 build that was terminated by a collapsing stack of books...

You could switch weapons and make an M1044. or just switch the OIF markings and make an M1025 from OIF.

humvees offer so many options. The weapons ring is different on the 1025 & 1046. If that got destroyed by the book slide I'm pretty sure I have one in my spares box. Let me know if you need it.

The Tamiya M1046 kit had US Army markings, but I didn't think the US Army used the M1043/44/45/56 types? Is this wrong?

Yes, the US Army did/does use this type of HMMWV. They are basically standard M1025s that have added armor plates and doors. They do not provide the same level of protection as M1114 Up-Armored packages though.

Yeah, I know the differences, but I had figured if the Army was still using 1025s by 2003 then they had to have decided that the supplemental armor was not worthwhile.

Some vehicles such as scouts and AT teams, who were deemed to be more vulnerable since they would be more forward, were converted to the M1040 series of partial uparmor. The Tamiya M1046 TOW Carrier represents one of these vehicles from 10th CAV, 3ID during the invasion in 2003.
