Hi folks, Went to the local hobby store this afternoon for some paints and saw they had the leFH 18 German howitzer there for $28.50 by the AFV Club. Anybody ever built this particular kit yet? Or anything else by this particular manufacturer?

I know PMMS has a couple write-ups on it, but I was just wondering if anybody out there had every done one of these items first hand and how they like or dislike it., and how hard it is to do.

Thanks in advance and take care, sgirty

Aha! Snuck off to Smitty's again?

I picked up the howitzer and a Sd. Kfz. 11 to tow it. Both kits look great on the sprues. I haven' t started the howitzer yet, but be prepared for a bunch of tiny bits and pieces.

Aye, Smitty's is THE place in this area for good buys on armor models around here. Although if I had been about a minute earlier I might have gotten caught up in a 4-car pile-up under the Wilmington/I-675 overpass tonight just getting there. That will teach me to try to go someplace just as the workers get out on Firday night! What with their radios cranked up and the cell phones in their ears, and then those same folks trying to drive like their 5 minutes late to be nowhere; it's no place for those who's reaction times and nerves are starting to go downhill some with age. Won't do that again.

Smitty's are just a tad bit higher than some of the Internet sites, but then again, if you have to pay $8 to $10 shipping, there's no gain there. And they can order you just about anything that the Squadron shop has as well, through them, for so much off too. Gotten some pretty good buys up there down through the years. Only trouble is they have no after-market items. But there's where R and J out in Washington State come in. Or Great Models in Utah.

But there is one salesman up there, and I don't know his name, but he's usually there on Saturdays, that is very knowledgeable on the manufacturers of armor kits and can tell you want is good and what isn't and what's known to be coming out and just about when as well.

Take care, sgirty
