how do people make foxholes? Im just curious.

Two man, spade/shovel and pickaxe, about 2-3 hours work depending on the soil. Alternatively a small bucket excavator and 2-3 minutes of time
In 1:35 scale "Terrain Modelling" and "Advanced Terrain Modelling" by Richard Windrow (Osprey) show the modelling of a slit trench/foxhole and a WWI trench system respectively. Basically he builds up the terrain with Styrodur etc. and
a) Cuts the slit trench out
b) Builds the terrain from multiple pieces that form the trench line
