In a German forum I found this:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/240281/message/1256563984/Neues+von+Hobby+Boss
The text of Thomas Hartwig reads:
"Just now the following pictures reached me of masters of two interesting new kits which are called to be from Hobby Boss.
Sure, the slat as PE ist more sophisticated and more realistic - but this way at least everybody can build it."
..and I own the Eduard PE Set and more, typical!

Gasp!
I would think the other bigger companies like Tamiya would be the first to include slat armor. I wonder how this will look when the production run comes to fruition, i.e. slat armor being way to thick

I was under the impression Trumpeter were releasing the Chally with slat armor. I also believe i read somewhere they were planning on doing some leopard variants as well so im slightly confused by this news. Never the less whoevers releasing it, the leo slat looks damn good!

We don't really know all the ramifications between HobbyBoss and Trumpeter but my guess would be the Challenger from Trumpeter and the Leo 2 from HobbyBoss.
Trumpeter already have a few Challenger in his catalog and HobbyBoss a few Leopard 2 afterall. Unless they decided to share their molds?

Common misconception among modelers is that Hobby Boss and Trumpeter are the same company....which is simply not true.
Both companies are in the same industrial park/complex, both companies use the same mold design company for their kits, but that is where the similarity and confusion is.
To further complicate matters, the company that designs and cuts the molds for both companies, is also the parent company of Trumpeter.
This is why Hobby Boss kits look similar to Trumpeter.
Do they share their molds and design team? Perhaps....but they aren't the same company like Dragon and Cyber Hobby is. Completely separate companies.

That slat armor just looks good. I wonder how fragile it would be when time came to assemble.

The slat on that Leo, although a little on the thick side, looks good enough to me.
I hope this leads them to make the slat for the Stryker this way. It would solve the problem for a lot of modellers who can't handle the PE slat.

Good to hear.
Hobby Boss should consider updating and improving their Danish Leopard 2A5DK kit to the Afghanistan deployed version with the correct modifications and the slat armour as well.

Presumably that is a reference to kit costs? Would it really increase the price of the kit that much for the manufacturer to simply include PE slat armour? PE (and metal barrels) seem almost common place in kits these days.

I think it's rather a reference to the skill level required to build PE slats.

It will be terrific to get the Canadian Leo in styrene with that pretty party skirt. I realize the slats appear too thick to scale but there are a great many of us awaiting styrene slats. Either or both of these companies will figure it out and get it to market hopefully soon.
