The diorama is set somewhere on Betio Island, Americans just neutralized a Japanese bunker and as they're trying to advance further the Japanese start a counter attack.

The bunker was made from balsa wood and a thicker stick cut into pieces, the sandbags are made from Milliput and the sand is a material called Plastiform which already had that colour. The figures aren't fixed, I just put them there for size compairing etc.

I'm going to add some palm leaves and some extra camouflage for the bunker and make it look like it was burnt by a flamethrower.

Right now I finished 4 figures from Dragon and Masterbox and thanks to Bob (aka dioman13) I got a Type 100 SMG to make my Japanese soldiers look more interesting.

Great work. One thing you might want to add is alot more foliage. By that I mean palm tree leaves and branched blown all over the place after preinvasion shelling. Pretty creative on the bunker, can't wait to see the final masterpiece.

I'm going to add some little beige bushes here and there and the palm is far from being finished. I also sculpted some smaller plants to place but not too many since Tarawa didn't have that much jungle.

What's your opinion on the colour of the sand? Just judge the last 2 pictures, in the first 2 it was still wet and looked darker. And this is the first time that I did such a bright terrain, should I give the footsteps a washing?

Hey, maybe just hi-light the sand. What color was the sand on Tarawa? I can't recall if they had white sandy beaches or if it was dirty colored sand. Hi lighting will bring out the folds and prints in the sand. I think it is your preference. A little wash here and there never hurt either. The bunker entrance would be a good chance to hi-light the folds since that would have a lot of foot traffic going in and out. Sand is such a tough subject to color.

I think your right, just put a little wash to show the prints, for shadows. Add a little wash around the bunker as well. If you check out one of my pics of an Abrams in the desert, I did a natural color of earth and then hi-lighted all the rocks, since the desert everything looks white. Don't know if that helped you out or not. Desert vs. sandy beaches are two different enviroments, but at least it gives you an idea.
