Several write ups in SFM that I have read lately mention using Future liquid floor wax as a final clear coat.
Have any of you tried this ?
What's the rest of the story ? How does it work ? Matte and Gloss finishes ?

Thanks for any Input.

I use it. Future is basically just an acrylic gloss coat. If you want a matt finish you will need to add a flattening agent. You just airbrush it on like any other acrylic paint, some people brush it on. It doesn't have to be thinned, but you can if you want. It works better if you use multiple light coats rather than a couple of heavy ones.

Thanks it was a new twist to me. I'll have to try it.

Tim's right, it's basically a clear acrylic coat. The standard sized 27 oz. bottle of Future is about $4-5 and the 1/3 oz. bottle of Tamiya's clear acrylic is about $2-3.

I wouldnt use it for the final coat unless you want a gloss finish. It is mainly use for protecting your painwork before washing (among many other uses). Remember not to use acrylic paints for washing you model after you have applied future,

Hi BH

I've never had a problem with acrylic washes over Future/Klear so long as it's properly dry. Mind you, I use water and detergent to clean off the wash rather than alchohol...

There was a neat article about acrylic "sludge" washes some time back in FSM... I'll try to find the issue number for anyone interested.

All the best

CRS, be careful when you buy the Future. Your wife may actually think you are planning on waxing the floors. Mine did. That said, I have never airbrushed it but I do use it as a gloss coat, brushed on, where I am going to decals. It is cheap and I have had good results.

I use future for a clear coat prior to decalling the plane, then I finish it with testors dullcote. Works fine for me.

I'm not sure it's the issue I remember but FSM Feb 1999 has a really good overview of weathering, including acrylic washes...
