I just picked up some Israeli tank crew to populate Tamiya's old Merkava kit, and I'm wondering what would be the best color for these guys? At first glance I want to paint them the same color as postwar (but pre-BDU) US uniforms, but I'm always interested in hearing what others say.
Just FYI they are the old Verlinden tank crew in cold weather gear...

Hi Damon,
My IDF M-60 6B GAL is featured in "Model of The Month" (AUGUST) and I painted my IDF crewman's uniform in Vallejo Acrylics namely 80887 (BROWN VIOLET - actually a light O.D.) as the base with a bit of BLACK for the shadows. For 1st and 2nd highlights I used 70988 (KHAKI) and 70821 (GERMAN CAMO BEIGE) with some small amounts of 70918 (IVORY) added for extreme highlights. Face was oils.
This is about the best I could match to colour pics of late 70's / late 80's era IDF tanker uniforms.
If you want some pics showing the crewman up close to best show the end result (and decide if this is the era / finish you want?) contact me direct at - [email protected] and I will send you the pictures.
If you do not want to use Vallejo paints then I'm sure some of the other blokes on this site will sort you out using other paint brands.
Cheers!

No that was super! I use lots of Vallejo paints for uniforms. I'll have to get to the hobby store tomorrow to pick up the Brown Violet though...

Gary,
Is this your vehicle? Sorry, I'm not too knowledgable about post-45 stuff
If you don't mind, would you post some close up pics of the figure here in this thread? I'm sure it would be helpful to readers

Hi Rudi,
It is indeed however I am at work at the moment.
I will pop some crew ones on over the weekend but don't know how big the Armorama format will allow? I am not a top figure painter but he turned out OK and I was satisfied with the end result.
As mentioned in my initial post, I am happy to send them direct if you want to contact me off line at the email address given.
Cheers!

Damon, in Verlinden productions modeling mag, volume 3/#3/page 80-81 (may 1992) is a center fold of an IDF tanker with gear.
