Hey Guys,
Well put simply i have 3 Tigers on my shelf glaring at me to get them built. I have 3 of Tamiyas kits - early, mid and late versions all of which i got for a great price on ebay. (great store here and great seller... http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=59730913). Anyway before building them i'd like to get some pe detail for them. Looking at the eduard site it appears theres a set for the early and late versions but not the mid. What really caught my eye was the zoom sets. I see theres a zoom set for the tiger tanks and am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. I'm looking to save a bit of money and am mainly concerned about the engine grills on these kits so am not sure if i need to buy the full sets.

any advice much apreciated.

cheers

The great thing about Eduard PE sets is that you can download the instructions from their website at www.eduard.cz. This way you can see if the set is of use to you or not. If you are only worried about the engine grills, Tamiya makes a set of grills specifically for their kits. They list two sets: 35179 Tiger I Grill Set and 35217 Tiger I early Variant Grill. Both run just under $8 and the first set includes two MG34 sights.

If you're just interested in the engine grills then go for it. No one said you have to use a full set of PE. I've used Eduard PE before on an airplane and it was very good, I've also used Tamiya's engine grill sets and they are very good also. As a matter of fact, my Tiger initial production is wearing a set of Tamiya grills. I think you could probably use the later vesion grills for your mid version tank.

powerlogik,

I have several set of PE for tigers and without doubt the best is the aber set AB 35K01 - this has cables, jordi gun barrel - it is the most comprehensive set available on the market. It is expensive thought BUT better value than buying all the bits as seperates - something that people often overlook when talking about the price of this set. It is one of the only sets that has the correct rear mesh type grill that are actually etch woven and not etch flat as all the other manufacturers make. This set is designed for the early but 80% of it will go on the early mids.

I have the set by Aber - 35 014. It says it is for the Tiger 1, Ausf.E/H1. Which version of the Tiger is that for? The two Tiger kits I have are the Tamiya mid and late - and was wondering if the set will work for either of those. If it isn't a perfect match for either of those vehicles, I'll just have to go out an buy the correct kit the etch was designed for. :-)
