Hi! I'm working on a Steyr RSO, a bargain box without decals. I understand that on the fenders were usually painted the Division emblem (is that right?) and, on the other fender, a mark that I don't understand; could be a "tactical mark"? If so, been my RSO in use to a Medical Co. would a triangle with a cross on top correct? Thanks for helping...

Thats a tough question. The only reference I have for tactical marks is Tony Greenland's book, and it shows medical company as a rectangle with the left side being thicker than the others, and a short cross on top. Since the RSO is tracked, I would guess it should also have a flattened oval under it to represent the tracks. There is another one for motorized ambulance platoon which is a horizontal line with a short cross on top, and a circle under each end of the line for wheels, but I'm not sure an RSO should have the symbol for a wheeled vehicle. hope this helps

Thanks for reply. In the mean time I discoverd a "German Markings" in Armour Talk (2002) that refers to:
http://www.panzerdiesel.com/data/e/2tbiv04.html
I've noticed that the two smal circles under the sign means "motorized", so I assume no difference between wheel and tracks.
I still do not understand which criterias were adopted in using those tac marks on vehicle or/and maps...

IIRD, the the two circles would represent a wheeled vehicle, the flattened oval an fullytracked vehicle and a circle with a smaller flattened oval would be a half track,so your RSO should have a medical corps emblem above a flattened oval.

But now the real fun starts..
IIRC in 1943 the germans overhauled the tactical symbols system, to add to the fun... I'll see if I can track it down...
