I have always wanted a Panzerwerfer 42 Auf. Maultier kit. An then I though I can scratchbuild. Why not build you own. So I this is me stated of it.
Project Type: Panzerwerfer 42 Auf. Maultier: Built on Opel Blitz Mailtier chassis.
Kit used:Italeri Opel Blitz 3(t) Type S
Kit Parts used: Engine, Wheels, Chassis.
Photo etch: N/A
Scratch Built materials: Brass Sheet, Styrene Sheet will be used here a lot.

I can't use the kits axle, I have to scratch build one. I know some of you may ask why build one? get one an axle form a different kit. Well I'll show you all why, scratch building one is so much fun.

I used resin like putty.

I'll detail it's face later. I started drawing the chassis lay our so I could start building the maultier chassis parts.

Thanks: Kastanova: I have a long a long way to go yet, but I feel you will like what's up next! The Axle has bean detailed, and I have started the maultier chassis build.

I ask why buy another kit when you can build it your self.

Road wheel supports up next. I started on these the same way I all ways do. By drawing a lay out of the subject. Now I have alot of these item's to make so this will realy be it for now.

All the items you see here are what makes up the full part. Complete part on the right.

Now I will have to use a moto-tool to give the wheel that shallow concave look. I have yet to add the coilovers as well.

Realy later guys I need to get back to work.

I also try to scratchbuild parts of a vehicle with my very limited skills.

greetings...

This is by far one of my favorite Axis half tracks and I will follow your build with great interest. It looks like you're off to a very good start, keep it up!

Sebastian.

Super work on those suspension units. This reminds me that years ago I bought two Airfix Bren Carriers to build this same vehicle - combining the suspension units and building up the body from card. They are still sitting in the cupboard in boxes and I have no idea what happened to the magazine article describing it.

You just might inspire me to finally do it.

Captain: I've seen modellers make coiled wire with more regular spacing by pulling wire onto the threads of a screw. Then you just "unscrew" the screw from your wire and the gaps are uniform and it much more looks like a coiled spring. As you have it now, I think it's less than satisfactory. Good luck to you.

AWESOME SB, Man! I have to agree with Eric Dean, though. The "wire around the screw" method, I think, would work better for your springwork!
Give it a shot.

I wish you had entered this subject into the ACUTR build. It would have fit in nicely.

Keep goin, Man!

Yes your that you two's recommendation of using a screw to get a more uniform coilspring is a go idea, but what if you dont have that right size screw. Just any screw will not work. Knowing the size of screw would help. I guess I will have to look through all my old screws to find the right size, an come back and post images of what I find. I have used this method in making coil overs for my 1/24 automotive projects but using those large screws worked o that. For 1/35 I will need a much smaller screw. I hate to take time from my project to search for a small screw. An yes I have bean to home Depot & Lowes, all there screws are larger in circumference that what I need.
I'll be back later to post what I find.

Ok this is what I found.

An it looks like I may have found just the right width & diameter I need. No shopping needed!

For my othere project wich will be the Opel Blitz Maultier, I'm making molds of some of the parts.

In looking at the real thing you can see that there are two coil springs one on top of the other. NOT just one long one. So I can use this small screw to help in making 16 new coilsprings. On the real bogie wheel assembly between the two springs, there is a small round shim like item that the springs have bean welded to, an in wich a shaft glides through. Thus making it a crowd and primitive coilover. That why I have to make two springs, on one of my springs I make up for the shim by bunching the coils close on one end of the bottom spring. An leaving it off the top spring, this gives the viewer the impression on the real thing.

I'll jump on that now so I can get back to work. [I hate set backs]

I thought I would start on the base before I finish the vehicle. It's on the ruins of a collapsed building.

Sal, if some one is willing to do a bit more scratch building more often than not.,Than that person's skills will grow with each scratch building experience.
An on the othere hand, if you can't buy it build it.
