Thanks for the reference photos Matt, you lucky dog. :-) That Jagdtiger looks huge. It looks like some of the display signs need a little upkeep though

I hope you enjoyed yourself....
The derelict state of many of the exhibits is a pity though...

Thanks VERY much for sharing these. I've GOT to get back east to see some of these places.
Any comments on the Proving Grounds in general? How much, how long does it take to see it all?Anything else you can see, or do there, besides these vehicles?

Nice pics Matt, I was up there a couple of weeks ago but didn't take many pics. Halfyank, to get in you have to have a picture ID and your vehicle registration, if you're a government employee you just show them that ID. There is no charge though you do have a chance to make donations to help build new facilities to house all the ordnance. It didn't really take me that long, some of the AFV's are along the road going in, but most of them are in the field behind and to the sides of the small museum building itself. The K-5 rail gun Leopold, aka. "Anzio Annie" sits on some tracks across the street from the building. I have heard that some of the tanks and other equipment (like the Elephant) have been moved, hopefully for restoration or at least to get them out of the weather to slow the deterioration. This was my first trip there and never having seen an actual tank in the "flesh" these machines are big! I mean, I knew that some of them like the Jagdtiger were huge (and man it is a monster!) but I was surprised at the size of some of the "smaller" tanks like the Panzer IV, and T-34. It is sad that they are slowly rusting away out there, hopefully they will be able to raise enough money for the new facility, and to restore all the old vehicle's before it is too late.

Alot of the Vehicles are missing. I think the took the worst ones and put them under cover to restore them as time & Funds allow. They are on a fund raising drive to Eventually put ALL of the collection under cover!!!!
http://www.ordmusfound.org I donated while there. The gate is like a Gauntlet to get in & out (security) But it's worht the trip if you're in the area.
I'd plan on spending atleast 3-4 hours there. I only had 2 so I didn't take as many pics as I would have liked.

Man I really need to buy a couple more memory sticks for my digi camera and take a day off work and go up there. I'm only about 40 miles from there. I never realized how close it was, and how many tanks were there. I have been depriving myself all this time!!!
