Looking through the "Assualt" journal magazine I saw some picks of warrior tracks that were off white or very light grey with the rubber being black. Is this the original colour or what happens when used on road ways. The picture was taken in Bosnia I believe.

hi,
i spent 5 years in a an amoured battalion and can drive warrior, 432, spartan etc. Its not the normal colouring, probably wear and tear from the tour, left out to the elements, salt etc. theres no difference in colour from any other tracks really. hope that helps.

I remember when training at Grafenwohr, Germany in the summer time, the dust was like talcom powder. It was a fine powder that could be several inches deep and was a very light gray color. That dust got on everything and was everywhere. It made the tracks look very light colored and only when the tanks crossed hardball would some dust rub off the rubber track pads. Can't say anything looked black though.

That dust turned into a slimey mess when it rained. It also caked into crevises on the tank and when the temperature rose, the stuff was baked hard like a brick.

Bringing back any memories to any of you Graf vets?

OH YES Rob! I remember using tanker's bars to chip the stuff out of the road wheels when we got ready to leave. It was amazing to see how everything, including the trees were that grey powdery color at Graf. Never had that problem at Hoenfels. There it was just mud.

Yes, the trees along the tank trails did look like the trees around Mt. St. Helen when that volcano erupted. All those pine trees looked like giant snow-covered Christmas trees that had a gray dinge to them.

Ahhhhh.... the dust of Grafenwohr. What a complete mess. EXACTLY like talcum powder. Coming out of the box, we would spend weeks trying to clean the tanks up.....
It does bring back some great memories.... thanks!

Hey ROB,

Man, does THAT bring back MEMORIES !! I wish I had a $1.00 for EACH TIME we had to take our stuff BACK THROUGH the wash rack because of NOT being clean enough to suit "THE OLD MAN"....

I was NEVER SO GLAD to LEAVE GRAF and return to garrison!

ALL THE WAY,

ABD
