I've heard this is a pig of a kit. Does anybody know if there are any aftermarket tracks and/or road wheels out there? I know of an aftermarket barrel by Armo.

Kit still in stash, but I'm sure I've seen track after market advertised somewhere - could be Azimut.

Cheers Gents! I haven't found a website for Azimut. From what I can see from reviews, the road wheels, sprokets, etc. are usable. It's the tracks that are horrendous! What would be a good replacement to what's already out there? This is plan B.

Heller AMX-30 is quite a pig. You'll need to put some major TLC into one of those kit.
Eduard is making a PE set and I think there's an Alu barrel available but don't know who make's it
The tracks are indeed horrible and in great need of replacement.
- GumKa made some plastic link-by-link first generation tracks a long time ago but they are now OOB and near impossible to find. I know I tried
- Phebus Creation is offering the newer style in resin. Don't know what they're worth. You'll also need some new sprocket if you go this way.
- Bronco's Ariete tracks could also be another alternative for the newer tracks if you can live with a few innacuracies. You'll also need some new sprockets with those.
Here's two links to give you an idea of the kind of work an Heller AMX-30 kit require:
- AMX-30 AuF1 155mm SPG by myself Blog is in french but there's enough pictures to give you a good idea. While this is the SPG variant, the hull configuration is almost the same.
- AMX-30 B by Zurich Again in french but plenty of pictures.

Wow Richard! Some nice looking work on those links. Are they 72nd scale???? I have found that ADVMINI has a resin set of tracks for the Heller kit and Armo does a barrel so I guess I've answered my own question! And found some good items too!

ADV Mini has released a set of resin tracks for the old Heller kit. It's available from Azimut Productions website :

And if it were possible, the 1/72 tracks are even worse than the 1/35 ones !!

Thank you all for the info and insight!
Richard- I like looking at 35th scale subjects so I can "attempt" to duplicate some of the detail, kind of like looking at a 72nd through a magnifier!
Frenchy-thanks for the hyperlink!
Olivier- As always Merci Beaucoup!

The tracks are rather expensive but what to do
Cheers!

Same here Z. I am currently working on an Airfix Chieftain Mk5 in Berlin camo. Doing some detailing/scratchbuilding now. AMX is a near future project. I'll definetly let you know when I start.
