Hi all!
This is my first post, as I'm sort of a novice to scale-models. I've palyed a bit with it when I was a kid and recently got interested in it again, this time hoping to do something a bit more serious than my first attempts. Also, I'm going to have my first go at figures. I just got Academy's German Machine Gun Team set (and found out too late that it may be a bit too challenging for my skills!) and have some doubts I hope some of you guys can help clarify...
First of all, what are those troops depicted in this set? I mean, in which scenarios (place and time) could we expect to find them? The infos on the box are severely limited, and I'm not sure what are the several machine guns represented (for the set has a few different options to choose from). Also, I have a few doubts on the color of the uniforms. The figures appear to wear the higher boots, which, if I'm not mistaken, are more common in the early years of the war. But the photos in the front and the back of the box have different color-schemes for the uniforms - one with greenish tunic-grey pants, another with all-greenish uniform. what is correct? Also, the description of the colors is not clear, not like some other kit brands that indicate color-codes. So, what are the references for the colors indicated in this type of Academy sets?
Hope someone can help me out with some of these questions, so I can start trying to fight my way back into scale-model fun!
Thanks!

Hi, the weapons are the MG42 and MG34 either of which can be used on the Lafette 34 tripod, and there is also a PzB 39 anti tank rifle which you can use with the prone shooter.
Timewise the 34 was used througout the war but more common in the early days, being replaced by the simpler to make 42 form late '42 onwards. The PzB 39 was popular early on and discontinued in '41 but saw service throughout the war.
The boots were used throughout.
I'd have to hunt a set out to see what colours and uniform details they have to comment more accurately on those and someone else may be along to help you out shortly but if not I'll hunt a set out of the cupboard later on and take a look.

Well, I think I managed to sort it out, in terms of color. I've started to work on it and I must say I feel it's going quite well (considering what my initial expectations were...)!
After a closer look on the set, I can also see that it has a lot of extra parts, which will surely come in handy for future works (if there is any LOL). Some of the parts included are not depicted in the box images, so I guess they are included as options.
Anyway, any help will surely be greatly appreciated and I'll be waiting for'em!
Cheers!

Hi
If you visit the Features section, under Armorama you should find a Figures section.
This section contains a number of excellent, helpful articles by top modellers on assembly and particularly painting. Similarly, visit Historicus Forma for more detailed articles on figure work.
The figure set you could be used to represent German soldiers from a number of theatres throughout the war. For uniform reference I would consider any of the excellent Osprey books on the subject available from specialist bookstores and hobby store.
Good luck with your figures and send in some pics!
Regards
Garth

TY, Garth!
I heard of the Osprey books, but money is running a lil' short right now, so I'm just trying to make this with the least investment possible - I managed to recover some old arts material I had and also some of my old enamels were still OK (good storing place for some years), so all it took for now was the set itself, the glue and some colors. Going ECO-friendly over here...
So, I'm researching online and trying to get some information around the forum, also!

Can I suggest using the great modellers tool of the internet for a little bit of research. If you go onto google and type in something like WW2 German uniforms or weapons you will get a ton of info for free.
