I have painted a M113-vietnam era ACAV with Tamiya's olive drab. When looking at pictures of vietnam-era vehicles they seem darker, even when they're clean. Anyone knows if Tamiyas OD is too light, or are my eyes cheating me?

Yes - Tamiya's OD is closer to colors used in WW II and Korea. Add a bit of Black (gloss or flat) to this mix to replicate the darker OD used from the mid-50's through Vietnam and the early 70's. Your eyes are fine.
Actual service practice was for the troops to add semi-gloss black to their OD at that time, I believe. I'm sure Sabot will let you know if this is correct or not...
