Hi Dave. Nice job on the Stug Crew. I like the camo and skin colour ... pity more of them wont be seen when its closed up .... but what will be seen will make it worthwhile.

The crew is looking good, it's nice that you can see so much of them through the hatches.
The large hatches in this make it even that much more worth doing.

Frank and Scott, thanks. If practicable I will leave the crew compartment roof detachable, but if I do that, I'll need to "Punch Up" the interior a bit.

Started the painting on some of the Infantry figures today. Squad Leader's camo is done but that's about all, he still needs lots of work before he's ready.
As you can see, the others are in various stages of "Paint". Back to work tomorrow so I'm not sure when there will be enough future progress for a new update, certainly by this coming weekend.

How do you paint the figures so well when they're already fully equipped with all their stuff??

Yes. Maybe I should have asked it differently. Why do you assemble before painting rather than painting, and then assembling?

I'm not really sure to tell you the truth, it has just evolved into this method over about 40 years of trial and error.

Did a lot of figure painting today and although there is still a lot left to do on these fellows (as well as the others), I think this warrants a post:

I have decided to standardize the zeltbahns and have removed the smaller version originally seen on MG42 ammo guys 1 and 2. The smaller zeltbahn rolls just didn't look acceptable to me.

if you want some really good rolled up zbans buy the tamiya 1:48th scale jerruy can set. it has a lot of rolled up tarps that are simalar sizes but slightly diffrent shapes thyat are the perfect size for zbans. also there are some more loosley rolled ones that look like the soldeir packed it up in a hurry and didnt have time to roll it up properly. or you could just roll up some flattend putty and put pe strips around it. lo, its soo annoying when youre looking at a really good dio like yours and suddenly you reallise that all the zbans and breadbags are the same.

Hi Dave,
Well done on the project thus far, and an informative blog to read. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one crazy enough to put the crew in the vehicle "just in case someone looks inside" (I'm working on a Stug IIIB for a group build on another site)
Just a quick question: what is the foam you're using for your base? It doesn't appear to be one of the usual types of polystyrene foam we see used for model building.

Mike, Erik, Rudi and Rick - Thanks guys.... it's been a real learning experience - as any good build should be. Rudi, I'm not exactly sure what kind of styrofoam it is but I bought it a Michael's and it looked like this when I bought it::
More to come this weekend.
Thanks,
rb

I constructed a small "Test" section of groundwork last night. Very time consuming but I think well worth the result ......
Needs a bit of shading here and there and it will take a LOT of time to apply but I think this "Mix" is appropriate.

Hi Dave,
I follow your thread with great attention since the beginning. I'm glad to see that you put as much attention in everything and that you don't lower your quality level as it moves forward
Your trench looks very good, something not so easy to depict convincingly
Peace
Phil
