Hello

I need to put a big grass surface in a Dio and were I live I can't find static grass and that kind of stuff. Could some one give me a home made solution to this problem?

Thanks
Daniel

Try model railroading shops. They sell lots of stuff that can be used for groundwork in dios. A well-stocked shop will also have static grass.

If you have access to hemp rope or twine - the brown stuff that seams to shred. Use this. You need to get scissors and cut small shavings of it.
To color it you can cut small sections 1 - 2 inches and let it soak in paint the shave to 1mm or 2mm or the length of grass you want.

Do a search on corn in the forums. The corn silk can be used as long grass and I guess could be cut to shorter lenghts as short grass. Die it the same way.

The hemp rope is great. You can find it in the plumbery section of a store.

If all else fails, you can use dill weed from the spice rack at the grocery store. The only down side is that your diorama will smell like pickles for a while.

Try cutting from your brushes.

Ola Danmo

I usually get my long grass from those softhaired white brushes found in the hardwareshops. When you have bought these brushes there are different ways of coloring them. You can soak them one night in a very diluted green. TYhe hairs wich are a bit yellowish from them selfes will become green on the top side. Another thing is AB the whole brush in green. In both ways of coloring keep in mind that a piece og grass is mostly yellowish at the bottom and will become greener when it reaches top.

You can cut the bristles off the brush and stick them in a hole you drilled before or stick it in the wallspackle/celluclay/whatever in your dio

Thanks to all you guys.

Just one last thing: to make small grass, I cut the brushes or the rope ore wathever, and, Do I throw it to the ground sourface treated with a mix of white glue and water? And after that do I blow? (I read in a book that this is how you work with static grass)

Again, thanks to all you guys

hey danmo
would you be able to find or buy a wig anywere?
if you can,get one that is blonde or brown.just cut short strips in bunches.use white glue to attach to your base.after it dries you can trim it to the length you like.one wig can do many a diorama.
once it is trimmed you can also airrush it to your desired colour.
hope this helps.
