Actually, it mightn't be such a bad thing if Tamiya do discontinue. Maybe then Trump or AFV would do an up-to-date Humvee with the different varients in plastic, a bit like their Stryker lines....

Just a thought,

Hi guys

This kind of posts regarding different Tamiya kits appears every once in a while . The reason for this (as far as I understand things) is that Tamiya produces their kits in batches, and sometimes there is a gap when the previous batch has run out before a new is in production. Might be different this time, but untill now all Tamiya kits that I know of that has gone OOP have re-appeared in the next 4-12 months.

Cheers,
/E

He's right, I've noticed this too. It also appears to happen with their paints and other products other than kits. If it's not being released in 2010 it will eventually reappear sooner or later.

Nothing to get excited about, just the usual cycle of kits going in and out of production. Hell didn't they re-issue their ancient Matilda #35024 as a "limited re-issue" knowing full well their NEW Matilda #35300 was to be debuted a few months later?

Somehow this practice of in and out of production and reissuing kits just doesn't excite me any more, maybe it's just old age, or a little of "didn't I see this movie before?"

That's why you have to stock up and buy your kits five and ten at a time!

All companies do this. Essentially, what companies do is produce X number of kits that they think they will sell over X amount of days, months, years. Produce that many, and then technically the kit is then OOP (despite their being 10000 copies in the warehouse). If it happens that they sell out of that number before that kit comes back on the schedule to be produced, then we are without it for for however long it takes for it to come back out.

Good example is the Tamiya T55.....out of production for awhile....all my suppliers are clean out of it. Prices are starting to creep up on Ebay, and people are hoarding the kit. Down the road, Tamiya will reproduce it (they would be crazy not to), and likely upgrade it somehow, adding in the PE screens, or a metal barrel, or some cheap ICM figures (I could see the new ICM Modern Russian Tank Crew being added to it the next time), and of course jacking the price the requisite amount as well, and calling it new.

That is the way Tamiya works....and is the way 99% of all model companies work.

Where did you get the heads up that Dragon Might be planning a series on Humvees. We haven't seen anything on the Modern Front from Dragon for some time, since they released the excellent M1Kits.
I did note that they have recently re-acted to Trumpeters immenent release of new modern weapons, by re-releasing one of their old weapons sets available some years ago. Not knocking them but they do seem to be dedecated to WW2 subjects at the moment.
I think a series on Humvees would be a winner. I look at Legands excellent recent released of conversation sets for Tamiays Humvees. £60 plus £25 for the kit makes a wonderful but expensive model. Made in plastic for £35-40 would sell by the ship load i would imagine. With good planning they could get countless variations of the one basic kit.

Think about it Dragon

I had a discussion with someone in the modeling business. He had said that DML was planning a whole series of Humvees. Not sure if or when they would be coming out.

If your Buffalo was that bad I'll take it off your hands. Every one I've seen posted on here, to include my WIP, has looked pretty damned good. Then there's the one in this months FSM. Can you tell us where yours went wrong? Photos of the aggregious parts, etc?

I would be happy if Trumpeter did the humvee in all honesty. Dragon would over engineer it probably, and we could probably get two of the trumpeter ones for one Dragon. BTW remember way back when trumpeter and AFV club annouced their Strykers so did Dragon. Where are they i wonder?????

I don´t know where I read it, but someone who is in closer contact to Dragon posted on a forum quite some time ago that the Dragon Strykers are cancelled and Dragon won´t do any modern armour any more.

IIRC, it was here or over at ML.
