I have completed the Tri Star Panzer 1 Ausf A for Armorama's Barb Campaign. This is a straight out of the box build with no aftermarket add ons.
Since I recently posted a number of in progress build pics on this Panzer in Rivet Review, (sans tracks), ---and described the build up to that point---, I won't cover that ground again in this thread. Please note however that at that time of the RR post, the indi track links were the final assembly item for this kit, and are now shown in a pic attached below.
Just a note for those interested in this kit,--- be warned that the indi track links provided are very very delicate to assemble, and as a result, can be somewhat frustrating for the modeler. This delicacy can lead to a lot of track breakage during link assembly and final track installation (so now you know, lol).
Also, right after these pics were taken, I managed to shatter the radtio antennae into I don't know how many pieces, (because I still haven't found find them all yet). So a repair is in order.
Please note several things on the attached pics that leave something to be desired.
First I have not marked this vehicle. Tri Star provided several sets of kit decals, (including those for the Polish Campaign). I did quite a bit of snooping in various armor references and on the Net for information regarding appropriate Barb markings for this vehicle. Unfortunately I have not turned up anything at this time. If someone has a resource to pass on regarding appropriate Barb marking, I would greatly appreciate it. Just as an aside, and interestingly enough, a number of early Panzer 1 pics that I did come across depict vehicles that do not appear to be marked at all, (which I found interesting- so maybe this is ok?).
The final pics are not overly pleasing as they are indoor shots. Since I posted several full body shots of this Panzer on Rivet Review last week, I thought I would attach a little something different here, i.e. just a couple of closer up views of the Panzer, plus a size comparison picture of the Panzer 1 next to the Tiger 1. Its absolutely amazing to me to see how German armor progressed/expanded in such a relatively short period of time.
Lastly, I noted some dry brush issues with the painting. The close up pics show bits of "steel" paint sprinkled on the hull that truthfully are not readily apparent to the naked eye when looking at the model so I'll try to clean those up somehow (I've never noticed that before).
I enjoyed this little kit, (except for the tracks), and hope you appreciate these few views. Thanks.
Steve
This is a repeat pic, but here is what she looked like before paint.
Painted/Weathered with no tracks.
Tracks installed (apologies for the indoor pic ----please note the antennae is still on (lol)

Looks great Steve! Can't see anything wrong with it. Those silver specks make it look more metallic IMHO. Only problem I can point out: it's not OD

One great built and painted model, looked real outstanding. As I said your subtle weathering methond, and Oberst's extreme weathering approaches produced two of the greatest looking Pz I A I had seen so far. Top Shelf material.
By the way, congratulations to be the first one to complete the Barbarosa Campagin, IIRC, you are also the first one complete the Cold War Campaign right? This is good karma thing, show people how committ you are when you sign up for a campaign. You have my respect!

Hey look, its Tiny Tank!
Nice looking one WWH, I think the track came out very well, even if it drove you mad to assemble.

SteveWWH,
Like I said before you are one of the best modelers whom I know in this site and you are doing great each time I saw your post. What were the preshading method you used on this kit? Are you going to put any decal on it cause I dun see any.
By the way, did you use Tamiya acrylics or Gunze colors?

Looking good. Question: Did the mg's elevate seperately? If not, you might want to check the alignment on the guns. One is definitely pointing higher than the other one.

Hi WWH,
One thing, I was trying to look for your Pz I A to get some idea on how to paint my own LeFH18 which is also in German Gray, and found it got to Page 3 already. I think it's the best if you could repost it to Rivet Review, so more people will be able to view it, and Modelers from all different discipline can see something different. This model deserve to be showcased more, and demonstrate how simple mono-tone paint can be effectively reproduced.
I for one would love to see an article about it.

Hi Steve I really enjoyed your Panzer I. I really liked the subtle effect of the weathering, however it may have been done. Have you decided on it's markings yet? Fine effort. It is impressive when you do put two well done representatives of two panzer models next to one another as you did that accurately portray the immense difference of size and dimension. (++)

Lovely finish WWH. Nice and subtle, yet clearly weathered. The highlight of your painting process for me is the shafts for your shovel and axe! They really look real. I have seen many older tools that have suffered outdoors abuse and this is perfect!! Care to explain your technique here? What about the 2 lovely figures that come with the kit? Are you gonna tackle them? Only thing that I would do extra (My own preference here only) is to rust the tracks slighly. They look abit clean and new. I love your style of painting and weathering. Great work!!!

Tanks and Octopus, Dave and others
I finally decided to decal the Panzer 1 with the Tri Star provided Polish Campaign markings. Its probably not too much of a stretch to assume some of these Tiger 1's continued right on into Mother Russia with the Barb campaign the following year.
The attached pics are the "graduation" shots for the Armorama Barb Campaign showing the vehicle with decals, and with the shattered radio antennae repaired.
My apologies as the pics could be better/clearer, plus I noticed there is a touch more track sag on one side versus the other---seems odd as I used 89 indi links for each side.
These pics conclude this oob build for the Barb campaign.
Thanks again to all who have been kind enough to comment.

Great Job, the flecks do give a metalic look to it. Another target for my T-26 (If it ever gets finished).
