Hi there,

trying to start on a very ambitious project and for it does anyone know where I can find drawings of a Tracked Rapier system?

Thanks

Ambitious indeed! are you going to base it on an AFV club M548 (that's as far as I got!)

Yep, close enough, using the Chaparral as the staring point, essentially the same thing. Having climbed over the real thing at Cosford this spring I had forgotten how much I liked it. When I worked in the MOD in the 80's I got to see one being demoed at BAEE and surprised that nowadays there is no big kit, so I felt like a challenge.

Hmm
Theres' a large Hardback book of the '80's with a title containing the words "Modern British Armour Equipments" (or similar...e&oe!) & it's smaller paperback offspring
which had 1/76 drawings of.. modern british armour & equipment!
Includes the tracked Rapier

I'll look for it tonight... (If my memory holds out that long....)

No drawings as such but did you know these guys do a kit of the towed rapier?

http://home.clara.net/djparkins/fline/flmaster.htm
Look under the 1/35th vehicles tab.

Might be some useful donor material.

I got a 84mm Carl Gustav and L16 mortar from them. Both were good and they were very helpfull

Thanks, I am aware of the Firing Line kits and have a couple already. The towed Rapier is nice, but does not yield as many parts as you may think as the launcher is different, only four missiles instead of two. The radar dish would be the same, but not the mounting and it is expensive to only use a couple of parts.

Thanks anyway

The book is called 'Encyclopaedia of the Modern British Army' by Terry Gander, published by Patrick Stephens Limited 1980 ISBN 0 85059 435 9. I was asked to do some drawings for it (and completed several) before they told me they wanted one man to do them all. Good book all the same!

Hi Graham

I've found my copy of the paperback, drop me a PM with your postal addy & I'll copy the plan & pop it in the post,
(no scanner available at the moment)

EDIT: more info from:

"Tankette" Vo.21 No.3 because there should be an article in there about the Tracked Rapier
Tankette Vol31 No 9 article on the Rapier: Blindfire Radar, Launcher and Optical Tracker.

I don't have these though....

Hi Graham

How are you getting on with your tracked rapier model. I too am looking at this as a build option so was wondering if you might be able to help. I have plenty of photos of a tracked system i come across in Devon if they are of any help to you in exchange.

Cheers

Hi!
I do have this book in my shelves, yes it is a good quality book indeed, but the drawings are very basic and sometimes not correct. For the tracked Rapier, I think they were not very good. If you want to get a copy, contact me.
