Looks like USA and NATO will be committing more troops to Afghanistan. I have found kits that specify Iraq but none Afghanistan. Do they exist?
If they do, would there be enough different kit to suggest a campaign?

I don't know of any A'stan specific kits, but most countries are using their current equipment there. The US has only sent USMC LAVs, US Army Strykers and MRAPs. No heavy armor such as Abrams, Bradleys, or AAVPs have been sent. For other countries, I know Canada has sent Leopard 2s, I think Germany has as well. Canada and Australia have also sent LAV varients, LAV III, ASLAV, Cougar, etc.

I'm not sure if SF used the GMV in Iraq, (by the time I got there it was mostly uparmored 1114's and 1152's) but I know we did in Afghanistan. The USMC MARSOC HMMWV's are very similar to the SF GMV, and I do know that they were only used in Afghanistan. Not quite armor, but as close as a guy like me is gonna get.

I just left there last month, and all I seen were Mraps, Humvee's no real heavy armor though. The od thing was too was that they didnt have Rhino's. They seemed to be a little behind there, Not as upraded as they were in Iraq. Maybe it was just where i was stationed. Alot of the SOF guys did have Dumvee's though, I know they were modding a bunch when i was there.

Hi all,
the only "heavy" vehicles the German Bundeswehr has in A`stan are 4 Marder1 A5 based in Kunduz. Otherwise we use DINGO 1 and 2, MUNGO, Fennek and DURO as patrol vehicles. Not sure if our government agrees with President Obama and send`s more troops down there.
A Marder 1A5 could be build using Revell Germany Marder 1 A3 kit, PSM Marder 1 A5 conversion, tracks and decal sets plus Schatton Modellbau turned 20 mm barrel.
Cheers

The French mostly use VBL Light armoured vehicles, VAB wheeled APCs, and a few AMX-10RC. Azimut makes resin 1/35 kits of the VBL and the AMX-10RC (along with P4 conversion sets for Revell Mercedes Wolf kit) , and Blast Models has released several upgrade sets for Heller's VAB kit.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking about proposing an A-stan campaign but giving the extra kits to make them appropriate I do not think there would be much interest.

Oh I beg to differ. I think there'd be a lot of interest in an Afghanistan campaign. I am still hoping to replicate a portion of firebase Harriman one day, but will need an awfully large space to accomodate it.
Your initial question led me to think you were looking for vehicles specific to Afghanistan only, ie, not used in Iraq. There are PLENTY of vehicles that could be used in addition to those mentioned above. Plain vanilla M1025's, Hiluxes (AMF, not SF use) Soviet Block trucks, UAZ 469's, the list goes on...

According to the Panzertruppe 2010 from Tankograd the Canadian Leopards are on loan from Germany.

While originally we leased the 20 Leo2A6Ms we have there, in the end, we ended up buying them, so they are ours.....however we also bought 20 Leo2A5s to upgrade to the 2A6M standard to give back to Germany. And along the way bought another 80 2A4s which will be upgraded at some point. So in the end we will have 100 tanks of varying versions of the Leo 2A4/5 and 6.

^^^ This is true.
My job is driving those bad boys =]
Personally I think it would be hard to make just an Afghanistan Campaign just for the sheer fact that 98% of the vehicles that were used in Iraq, were used in Afghanistan.
MIND YOU
I suppose you could include Canadian vehicles and other coalition forces that spent most of their deployment in Afghanistan.
Or even perhaps UN vehicles?
Initially I thought the thread was about vehicles perhaps used by the Afghanistani Army / National Guard.

I never saw any Chally 2 in Afghan during my time there. As far as im aware they are all in process of having added mine blast protection fitted along with Warrior AFV. Perhaps after this is carried out they might be deployed. Bastion have a squadron of APACHE LONGBOW for base defence.
Best of luck to our troops out there at the moment

Hi, I never saw them myself. It was the DCO of the Role 2E in Bastion that told me this when he visited me in Kandahar. He said they did not leave the base confines. This was in summer 2008.
