Dragon Models have just announced a New, 1/35th scale figure set:
6574 - German Warriors 1940-41. Not, in itself surprising, however what they are doing with it is extremely interesting.. The full reports and re-edited images, can be seen:

I know it's not by Ron Volstad - my point is that thanks to HIS (previous) work in illustration, they've acted as an inspiration for sets such as this
Kudos to the illustrator of THIS set though - it's excellent...

These do look like they have potential and could really set the scene for a good diorama.

Good call by Dragon. More sets like. Nice boxart that looks like Volstad or at least inspired by.
Cheers

Hi
Great looking set and it seems that Dragon have woken up to the alternatives available with figures rather than what they mainly produce. Step in the right direction, more please and not only German.
I wonder if the choice of AFV in the background has any significance ? (considering the recent releases from Tristar and Bronco)
Time will tell.

A must-have set for many modellers, I think. I'm amazed that it's taken so long for such a set to appear.
The Miniart set "Soviet Tank Crew At Rest" includes a Russian "tankist" putting on overalls, but that's the only similar sort of thing that springs immediately to mind. Oh, and a couple of Verlinden winter Panzer crewmen doing likewise.
But certainly an interesting new direction from Dragon. Let's hope it's not just a one-off.

That's really interesting, I like it. The artwrok is made by Dmitryi Zgonnik, originally for Concord Publications. First, second and fifth from the left are from 'German Invasion of Yugoslavia' book, third and forth from 'Das Reich in France' book. Btw, Stephen Andrew did also exellent artworks for Concord Publications that would be really usefull to follow by DML.

These look good, so they are finally catching on to the possibilities of more generic type figures, which can only be a good thing.

Superb! Now if we can get some figures "at rest." There's an old military aphorism:
"Why stand if you can sit, why sit if you can lie down?"
So many photos of soldiers crapped-out from exhaustion, but no sets of figures resting or lying down.
Great news!!

I like this set and it's a good direction for DML to go in - they are following a trend set by Miniart with their
Geman soldiers at Rest and
Soviet Soldiers at Rest sets.
Of course they won't please everyone as they aren't "In Action"

Good set.
I wish more manufacturers understand that variety is the way to go, Modellers need figures who are.. in action.. POINTING.. resting.. getiing dressed.. shaving.. jumping on vehicles.. jumping down from vehicles.. sleeping.. eating.... Axis.. Allied.. etc..
If you eat your most favourite food every single day, there will come a time when you'll crave a change!

Haven´t see a figure set from Dragon for a long time and think directly .... I want this. Until now.
New direction or whatever ... this set looks like a winner! Love the artwork ... and the actual figures look quite nice also.

Yep, I like the look of this set alot.
I have plenty of figures just standing around, looking at nothing in particular! Agreed Stefan, bring on some US and Brits like this one.

It pleases me to no end to see the positive responses to this set. While I had nothing to do with it, this is the sort of thing that I had been encouraging Dragon to do for many years and perhaps now it's time has come. I do hope that it translates into a commercial success since that is what guides these decisions.
I'm happy to see the work of really fine artists like Carlos and Dimitriy being shared with us. And now you'll have to excuse me while i paint another tank.
Cheers to all,

Generally, most people are pretty fair-minded. DML has, in many ways been a little singled-out for some perceived 'slights' (some justified, others imagined) over the last year or two and many of their releases have not got the pulses racing particularly.
However, this set, seems to have gone in a REALLY desired direction - only going by the interest it's generated HERE, it should (if there's any justice) sell by the truckload...

Yes yes yes.
Thinking outside of the box (no pun intended) is where we need to be with figure sets right now. DML have great quality figs and with them getting imaginitive now then the future is bright for us modellers.

The poses depicted with these figures probably reflect how soldiers spend most of there time whilst in action. About 90% of there time is spent waiting around for orders to move, resting or catching up on sleep, having food, standing about talking and worrying about what’s coming up next.
Good idea to have some choices

So what are the realistic chances that we'll see sets like this for the Allies? I thinks it's great that the Germans have such a wide variety of kits, but when are the Allies gonna get a little love from the manufactureres?

I doubt if you're following the News Section here very much... There have been a LARGE number of Allied sets announced (we've got the in-progress `pics to prove it) from a variety of different manufacturers (including DML). To say otherwise is frankly, nonsense...
The Allied modeler is getting more releases than EVER before...
