This dio was a challenge on several levels, particularly the base. This was my first time modelling a dug out gun emplacement and employed water and snow effects and groundwork simultaneously. I scratc hbuilt the emplacement walls and several other items and used multiple Verlinden and Warriors figures, some out of production.
The PAK artillery is an old Italeri kit [ I think] and I also used several various other resin kits to model the PAK rounds and food items. I'll try and dig up the original picture files which show additional angles.

Very cool Dio. I like how relaxed everything looks (allthough the fog in the background helps). I also like how not everyone experiences the cold the same way. Good mixture of figures!

Very nice scene. I love all the groundwork and picture background!
Maybe its only a phase but I've been getting into using atmospheric images to complete the dio illusion lately, verses simply trying to shoot at angles which don't include telephone wires or my neighbors roof.

Hey Jon,
Nice work on the dio !!!
The gun FYI is a 88mm PaK 43/41, isn't from Italeri.
It's either the plastic kit by AFV Club or the resin kit by Verlinden
The PaK43/41 was introduced in 1943 but may not have been available at the Battle of Kursk in July/August 1943.
AFAIK, the Soviets had captured the Kursk Salient by October so I think the dio's title would be better named "Eastern Front, 1944".
Cheers

Hey Jon
You have a super layout here, and the figures look very well presented.
The scene has a real Andreas Nossman look to it!
The only nitpick would be the bald head, when you have a helmeted chap behind him with a blanket wrap on?

Jon,
Very nice work on all counts. Love the base work, can almost feel the frigid temps.
But, correct me if I'm wrong. The Battle of Kursk occurred in July/August of 1943, so there wouldn't be any snow.

I guess the bald headed guy doesn't feel the cold. And the guy with blanket is a witch.
Awesome dio. The snow looks good, painting - 10/10.
Keep it up
JJ
P.S. Burn the witch!
