Hi, I'm just cleaning up and getting ready to paint a Verlinden set of various pieces of euqipments that make up a basic kit to fill up the rear of the Tamiya FAMO model. It's the kit that has various sizes of boxes, engine pieces. etc., in it.
Now I was just wondering if the outsides of the two engine blocks in this kit would be painted, say a semblance of the German Grey color or maybe the German Yellow, or even just a standard blackish color? I see that on a lot of the construction equipment in today's world that the motor, frame, and most of the parts on the frame/chassis, are all painted the same basic color. Which is some cases kind of hold true for semi tractors as well. Would this be true for the German stuff of the World War II era, or not?
I was thinking about painting the model FAMO I have in the German Yellow, so would the motor, trans, frame, and such be the same color as the body? I think so, but am not sure, so I'm asking others out there who have lots more knowledge that I on this subject , if I would be correct in doing this way. Not quite sure.
Thanks in advance and take care, sgirty

I asked this same question a few weeks back on several forums. I never did find a definitive answer, but here's what I did find.
Engine blocks were black or grey, in semi-gloss
Transmission housings probably grey.....this one I'm not too sure about, seems to me if it was used it should be interior color or primer red.
Fittings like carbs, manifolds were bare metal.
other components like alternators, oil filters, valve covers were probably semi-gloss black
I'd really like to hear a definitive answer though if someone has it. (++)

Hi, beleive that we might have landed in an area were there's not too much information available. How can that be? Ha!
Oh well, thanks for the reply, I guess when all else fails you stick with the coloring on the box art, which is pretty much what you have come up with. I really don't think Verlinden would intentionally mis-represent something on it's box art. They're just too good of a company to do that. Some very nice pieces in this kit, I highy recommend it.
Thanks and take care, sgirty
