Seems like it is supposed to be the brown grout under a missing tile, but it sure looks like something else to me too. What a wierd ,curious and somewhat funny dio!!!!!

His name's Songho Park and he usually makes these interesting types of dioramas. He told me once that he went to Euromilitaire and wanted to enter a diorama featuring Jews about to be shot by Nazis. Obviously it didn't go down to well and he could enter it. He didn't know what all the fuss was about!
