Is anyone interested in taking part in a figure sculpting walk-along?

By "walk-along" I mean a SBS style group build/campaign wherein participants will be led step-by-step in the sculpting of a figure. The idea is that participants actually do as opposed to merely observing, and post their progress - thus getting feedback from the SBS/GB leader and other members as they all travel the dark path of figure sculpting together.

While the walk-along will be hosted on HF, most likely early 2010, this is just a feeler post - if there's no interest there's obviously not much point in us going the walk-along route

Rudi,

That is a hell of an idea, I've offten wanted to sculpt a figure or a bust.. but well.. I just don't have the skills to do it...I can paint fairly well, but well the rest has yet to be tapped into.. I'm game for something like this.

Rudi

I have the Magic Sculpt, have read all the sculpting posts on HF, have watched numerous You-tube segments on sculpting - and have not had the gonads to take the HUGE leap.

So yes I would definitely be in for a walk along as you have suggested.

Hi all

Partially due to us wanting to do something that would also pull in the armour/diorama guys from Armorama, and partially due to it being the sculptor's prefered scale, we'll probably run the demo in 1/35 scale. That said, that is not to say that you can't follow in your own prefered scale (or only follow the shoulders/head area in the case of a bust). It's all about the techniques being demonstrated, followed, and shared feedback in a virtual classroom type environment.

I'll try catch up with the sculptor tonight and get a final confirmation on him leading our jaunt, time periods and of course subject.

Thanks for your interest folks

I would be interested too. I don't think I'll ever be able to sculpt a whole figure, but I'm hoping to learn enough to do major converions and alter figure's clothing and stuff like that.

What material would I need. I have Tamiya's two part putty. Would that work or do I have to get another type of putty?

Hope this takes off

Hi all,

Thanks all for your interest. I had a chat again to our volunteer tutor this evening, and I'm pleased to say it's all looking set, and we'll be making the announcement on 2 Jan 2010 about what, when and how - so watch this space!!!

You should post some of your work over on Historicus Forma I'd love to see what you've been doing

I would be intrested in this as someone else said here, I don't know if I could complete a figure but i would like to be able to convert existing figures for different poses. Will watch out for the news in the new year.

Do the same rules/skills/ and techniques apply when converting figures as they do when making a figure from scratch or will this be covered as a separate class?

Hi Darren,

The short answer is yes, skills learnt in a sculpting course like this will aid those doing conversions - provided one is able to extract those sections from the whole

I'll be doing a few minor figure conversions through 2010 for some projects - I'll be sure to blog them for those interested.

Sounds like a great idea, I've always wanted to try sculpting figures. The idea of creating any pose you need is awesome.
