Hi gang,I`m about to start doing a M-151 Mutt in IDF colours, but what i was wondering which version is correct ?.Academy`s version is an A1 but i seem to remember reading somewhere that they`ve never used this !.
I have bought Tamiya`s TOW version to act as a donor kit if needs be,so if someone out there can clarify this i can press on.

MERRY CHRIMBO TO ALL !!

Hi Danny,

You are correct about the M151's. There are a few photos of A1's in IDF service around 1967, but they all seem to be captured Jordan vehicles. So apart from these very few you should base your IDF M151 on the A2.

If you go through the old posts in the IDF section you'll find a bunch that deals with the subject:

Thanks for the reply Erik,i will use the Tamiya kit as the base and graft the IDF mods on too it.

While the original Academy M151A2 kits from the 1980's were unauthorized clones of the Tamiya parts, the newly issued Academy M151A1 and A2 kits are newly tooled and are a huge improvement on the older Tamiya items. For instance, you get open holes in the hubcaps instead of little cup shaped depressions, and you get clear plastic headlights instead of beige styrene domes molded onto the front of the radiator grill. They are well worth tracking down, and are fairly inexpensive.

Gerald is correct. Academy's "newer" release Mutt's are better. Just make sure you don't pick up the older Academy kits accidently.

These are the newer tooled Academy kits...

M151A2 Hard Top Mutt Model Kit with Trailer (13012)
M151A2 Mutt with TOW (13024)
