First, welcome aboard Didinjo! Glad you found us.
I'm sure there will be plenty of others chiming in here with more knowledge than I on the subject. In the meantime, take a look, (or read as it were) on this article I found by Shane Iversen titled "Rushing to Normandy". The author describes how he went about achieving the colors for the various uniform details.
Rushing to Normandy
I hope this helps at least to get you started.
Again, welcome!

Hi Domenico. Instead of giving you the colors I use, I suggest that you match them by what " your eye " see's. Alongs you come close that is good enough, because after you have added your shadow/shading and drybrushing, this will give your SELECTED BASE COAT COLOR a good weathered appearance, making them a good illusion of the real combat worn uniforms.
..... As for reference here is Mark Mando's website. The info Mark gives is 100% accurate and come's from his comitted study of U.S. Airborne history during WW2. There are great color photo's of "AUTHENTIC D-DAY " M42 uniforms and good ref's to the " green " M43 uniforms worn in Op. Market Garden and Bastogne and color photo's of the "plain " M43 trouser's which were converted by " parachute riggers " with cargo pockets to match the more favorable, but recalled M42 trousers. http://www.101airborneww2.com/
