His diorama book (even the 2nd edition) might be a bit dated now, but it's still like a bible to me. There's some really great stuff in there. As he points out in it, many of the monogram dioramas have now been lost, since they were property of monogram and were often given away as gifts. It appears that thier legacy still lives on in the hearts of modellers though.

I had the privilege to meet the man himself at the World Figure Expo in Boston 2005 . As for being a fan, I've been one ever since I started building the Monogram armour kits when I was 12 years old. Inspirational is really understating the fact, the man is an ICON ! By the way, Brian, if you are really keen on replicating the Panzerspahwagen scene, I know a model store in Singapore that still has a few of the original Monogram SdKfz 232 Panzerspahwagen kits for sale at only S$ 40 or thereabouts ( approximately US$ 28 ). No excuse not to try it out now, my friend . If you're keen, I can get them for you. Cheers !

I wouldn't it even call it dated. His stuff in that book still looks amazing to this day, and ultimately I think that's the greatest metric to judge work by. We may be inundated with addon kits, PE, 100 different custom tools, and base model kits that have replicated the real thing to exacting details, but at the end of the day if we don't create something that's pleasing to the eye, all that fancy work has gone to waste.
I certainly think accuracy in models is important, but I think sometimes as a whole modern modelers can get a bit lost trying to replicate the perfect weld beads or antenna diameter and forget that the overall composure of a model or diorama is most important.
