What infantry would go with the tigers of S.SS 101 in the retreat from Normandy? I was thinking of using a mix of Luftwaffe uniformed and heer uniformed infantry to depict one of the Luftwaffe field units fighting to break out of the falsie pocket with my Tiger, would this work or should I just use the heer uniformed figures.
Thanks in advance

This might help point you in the right direction mate.
Part of the 1st SS Panzer Corps which at this time consisted of the 101 SS Heavy Panzer Battalion, 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend, 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division Götz von Berlichingen and the Panzer Lehr Division.
The LSSAH had been positioned north of the River Seine to counter any possible landing in the Pas de Calais so the first units did not arrive in Normandy until the night of the 27- 28 June with the whole division taking another week to arrive.
By 4 July the 1st SS Panzer Corps was reformed and now consisted of the SS Divisions bearing Hitler's name 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hilter and the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugand. The first action they were involved in was the defence of Carpiquet village and aerodrome in what was known to the Allies as Operation Windsor. Next followed a number of Allied attacks Operation Charnwood and Operation Jupiter and on 12 July the LSSAH were in charge of the Caen south sector from Maltot in the west to the Caen - Falaise road in the east. During the night 14 - 15 July LSSAH was relieved by the 272nd Infantry Division and pulled back to a concentration area astride the Caen - Falaise road between Ifs and Cintheaux.

Well, if we're discussing the German withdrawal through the Falaise gap in August, it was a free for all retreat of every surviving German unit engaged in the Normandy sector trying to escape encirclement, so you could justify about any outfit in NW France. They were trying to funnel an entire army through a very narrow corridor, and chaotic doesn't even begin to describe it. It was comparable to the famous "Highway of Death" out of Kuwait City in 1991.

Thank you for your replies- they have been very useful
I did some snooping in the second Tigers in combat book- i found an entry stating that two tigers were used to support a counter attack of a fallschrimjager division, possibly to re-open the pocket.
I think I'm going to put the tiger in with some fally's.
