My experiences have been similar to yours Panzerdoc. My first two orders never came, and I called until I got through. It took a while, but everything was made right and he threw in a couple of extras at no charge to help make up for the inconvenience. Ever since then service has been great. I had one order that was lost in a system crash and he gave me everything plus some at the next show, and I had one large order that never arrived, and he sent me the full order again within a couple of weeks. I don't really know anything about his current circumstance, but I do know that he hasn't ever been all that healthy for the time I've known him, which is roughly as long as Panzerdoc.

His website is still up, and still says that he is in Peoria, AZ.....so I don't know about the business being sold to someone in Texas...if that was the case you would think the new owner would want to distance himself as far away as he could from Tank Rat....

His Kitmaker site is coming up as:

ADONewConnection: No database driver defined

Whatever that means.

I too have an online presence for my shop, but also have a physical store, albeit in the basement of my house, but people can still walk in and browse.

Maybe it was my 15yrs in the grocery business, and another 5 in the retail sector as a manager, but any business like this, customer service has to be a first priority, otherwise you aren't going to be in business long.

If a customer has a problem or concern...address it, fix it the best way possible, and the quickest way possible. If the customer isn't happy....then the Six Degrees if Separation takes effect. That customer tells 3 of his friends, whom each tell 3 of their friends, etc, etc. Not long and no one is buying from you.

Works the same way when a customer has a great experience, he tells his friends about the awesome place he bought his stuff from, and it blossoms from there.

In the end, it isn't rocket science....keep the customer happy, and the sales will come.

The forum has been removed from armorama as a result of this thread and others like it on other websites. Ironically, the things you mentioned about customer service always seemed to be there in my dealings with tank rat. I have been ordering from him for two years and have had nothing but good service. There would be an occasional glitch in a large order but he always made it right. Currently, Jon is seriously ill and was suppose to have emergent surgery yesterday. I am very disappointed that this is happening as I used his online store almost exclusively. I think most of his loyal customers were completely unaware of these issues. Hopefully, when he gets back on his feet he will address these issues.

Sucks that he is sick, but that is no excuse to keep taking people's money and not returning product.

I know Jon, and know the system he uses for his website, Zen Cart, which at a few flicks of the keyboard you can shut it down and just leave a message on the front page that due to health problems (or whatever the reason) that orders can't be fulfilled at this time.

Instead he left his website running, which allows people keep ordering and paying for items, but not receiving them.

Thing is....if someone pays via credit card for an order on Zen Cart....the person on the other end still has to manually process the credit card....the website doesn't do it for them.

Now I don't know if people using a credit card were getting hosed, or only those that were paying via Paypal (as Paypal will automatically complete the transaction), but if anyone got taken, and used their credit card, but didn't get the items they paid for.....well someone on the other end of the website has to actually process those credit card orders.

Either way, it is unfortunate that he is sick, if he is in fact sick, but it still comes back to customer service....if you can't complete your end of the deal, by sending the items people pay for, for whatever reason, then you shouldn't be taking their money!

Man--I go away from Armorama for a few months and it comes back to bite me. I placed an order with Tankrat in late September, got only part of it (but got charged in full) and have not heard back about the rest of it, despite multiple emails. I just tried calling the number listed on his Web site and got a "Your call cannot be completed at this time" recording.

Seems like I should have made time to check Armorama earlier to see what was going on. I'm off to file a complaint with my credit card company.

I placed an order Nov. 15 and haven't seen it yet. Sent an e-mail this morning with no reply. I see that the Academy M-10 I ordered is off the site though ...

Ordered some other kits from a different company Dec. 2 and the UPS tracking number says they'll be here tomorrow, ha!

Still no kit and three e-mails deep.

Is there some math equation for e-mails-and-phone-calls = a response? This is not a business, that's for sure.

It looks like I'll be dropping a complaint with my credit card company too.

I wish I had heard about this before I went on the site. I'm doing my homework from now on.

I am out 140.00 for a solder station that he said he had but did not. I could not even get a refund. I learned my lesson and now use other vendors for all of my armor model stuffs. I gave up trying to get him on the phone or email. The money is gone and I am not angry any longer. Live and learn.
I found the same solder station on Amazon for 50.00 cheaper. I will get it down the road. His website seems to be up and running. The number of model kits get lower each week. Someone is still taking orders. All I can do is shake my head and move on.

Contact your bank ASAP. They may refund your money and research the incident.

My money has been refunded. Plus, if you think the kit may end up in your mailbox, the bank will reverse the transaction in the vendor's favor if it does show up.

You win.

Ha the none sense with this guy continues, I wonder if any one bought into the deal with paying for a membership fee to his club... If he does not answer E mails or phone calls it must be an exclusive club.

What a company.

No one should put up with him!

All things come to their inevitable conclusion. It was only a matter of time before Jon (insert whichever last name here) could no longer keep his "shell game" up. As soon as Bob Collington and Wolf/Hornet made it known they were ripped off for big time cash, a WHOLE bunch of people piped up and explained how they were scammed for thirty, forty, hundred bucks, etc. So he was obviously doing this the whole time on a small scale and I guess he decided to "up the ante"....gee his friends and supporters saying he's sick or just a good guy in over his head sure seem to be quiet now, don't they? I am glad he no longer has a banner ad on Armorama but his website is stil active so the scam continues. if we keep this thread alive, maybe we can help stop a newcomer to getting ripped off.

Well.......the plot thickens.
I may have been screwed as well!!! I found tankratsafvdepot through E-bay where he has 100% positive feedback from over 1900 transactions. I failed to do any further research and I thought his on-line shop would be OK. I made an order last week for over $130. I triead to access his website this morning and got an error message that the website declined to allow me access. I sent an e-mail for help from him. No response YET! While trying to get on to his site I googled his website name tankratsafvdepot and stumbled upon this thread. If I wasn't worried then, I am now. I thank God that I paid with Pay-Pal and not a credit card. Who knowa what damage he could do then. Hopefully if I don't hear from him soon Pay-Pal will get my money back to me.
When I try to access his website I get the message: "The website declined to show this webpage"
Upon further research Internet Explorer connected to the site but has declined me access. I'm not a computer guru, but is it possible for tankratafzdepot to block my access to his website? Does anyone know if the site is still up?

Has anyone else had problems with this guy since the previous posts?

I would like to know if anyone has had thier problems resolved or not.

I've seen several posts that praise this guy as the second coming messiah and then others that say they got stuck by his pitch fork and the two horns in his forehead!
I really hope this guy gets my order to me. He has yet to see the wrath that I will bring down upon him if he does not.

I've been out of pocket the last ten years in Iraq and Afghanistan so I haven't been able to keep up with any news in the modeling world. Therefore, I have just joined this website and this is my first post. What a bummer I have to make this the subject of my first posting. This will not be my last.

If tankratsafvdepot comes through I will post here to let everyone know about it.
If he does not.........well, as I stated.......the plot thickens

Cheers to all

Hey Tony,
Kind of a rude post.
What part of the posting from csosus didn't you understand?
The guy said he is a nubee to the site who purchased from Tankrat thru ebay based on positive customer feedback...... no reason to believe Tankrat was a crook based on that.
It isn't until csosus googles 'Tankrat' finds this forum and post that he is made aware of member's history with the online store.
Cut the guy some slack. He had no reason to suspect foul play prior to sending his money for the order.
Hopefully he will be like one of the few that actually recieved what they ordered in a reasonable amount of time. If not.............

csosus I would suggest you start trying to get your money returned now. The posts I have read about this company, including complaints from manufacturers about this company failing to pay for goods the sooner you get your money back the sooner you can buy it from someone more likely to send you the ordered goods.

I had some bad experiences with him as well. I also did get some great products at great prices, so......... Honestly though, I do not trust him. I tried to look at his website and got the "Forbidden" message. I then went to eBay and looked him up there. With still 100% satisfaction with 1966 transactions, I would say that's pretty good. However, there are no current listings for him.

I would only do business with him in person and pay with cash. Another friend of mine paid for something through him with a credit card. Later, that same credit card was making all kinds of purchases in Arizona. My friend has never been to Arizona but that's where tankratsafv was based, interesting.

As Darren said, start the process of getting your cash back now. And I would recommend you stay as far away from the Rat as possible. He's bad news. Just my .0178 cents worth. "Q"

I guess it depends on how you define rude. What I find rude is someone else interjecting their selves into a conversation I was not having with them. Save your lectures for your kids.

The Rat took me for $34 luckily I got my credit card refunded by my credit card company as a result of his fraudelant business actions.

I think a crook like this is hurt most in his wallet. His wallet is the Tanksrats AFV Depot website which he uses to process credit card/paypal transactions which he pockets without delivering the goods.

It would be sweet justice to hear that his site was hacked and brought down effectively ending his ability to perpetuate his scam.

Of course we might seem him resort more to showing up on forums offering to buy and sell products where trys to get the victim to either send the goods or cash first then not deliver the goods or pay for them.He did this to Roger Saunders of Hornet. So he is not immune to this activity either.
