Started as a groupsbuild on a Belgium forum, I tought, let's share it with the Armorama readers.
4 builders are trying to build the German BR52.
Each one in another colorscheme, what a coincidence!

The boxart.

The sprues.

A little bit of PE.

The crew.

To be continued.

Step 1 wasn't that difficult to build.
It's the start of what becomse the frame.
Some pictures.

After step 1 follows step 2.
Most parts in step 2 are the shock absorbers, the springs as I call them.
Also the buffer beam is in progress.

The two different kind of buffers.

The buffer beam.

A piece of the frame with the shock absorbers.

The other piece..

Hi Soeren, thanks for the interest.

And after step 2 follows step 3.
The kit is from Trumpeter and I didn't expect so much sinkholes.
That means a lot op putty was needed.

Putty.

Reason why I need putty.

More putty.

Mounting for the steam boiler.

Shock absorbers, also need putty.

Dryfit of some supports. Start to looks like a steam engine frame.

Needs a little cleaning before painting.

Part 2 of step 3.

Did a litlle painting.
Used matt black for the frame. The grey pieces are dryfit in place. So they still need a bit of paint.

Moving part. I know the use, but that's very technical. It's used is a system to go front or backwards.

It can move.

Getting bigger.

Step 3 comes to an end.

Step 4 and next, here comes the PE parts.
So keep watching.
And thanks for getting this far.

And now I'm finishing step 4 and step 5.
This is the first step I've got to use PE.
It gives a bit more detail.

The cover (as something to do with the steamvalve) without PE.

The left one with PE.

Can't get it sharper.

If you look close, you see two white rods, must make them the same length and then a small piece of PE put into place .

The underside of the cylinder.

One of the two pressure drums, still need to install a litlle valve.

Same cylinder.

Now you have to wait some time, the rest will follow next year.

To all the readers, a happy new year, building fun and good health in 2010.

Very nice! I build one in 1:72nd scale. I'm curious...how will you paint this locomotive? I painted mine grey with yellow stripes. You can look at it in the Constructive Feedback section, if you would like. Is there a link to the other builds in your group you could share?

Well, knock-out marks are a trademark of Trumpeter.

How is the frame coming along? Is it easy to keep square?

I'm very impressed by the sheer size of any train kit in this scale.

It was easy to keep it square. There where no problems building the frame.

Finaly some time to give you guy's an update.
Stage 4 and 5 are almost done.
Used a little PE and some kitparts.
To let you know what I've been working on, the parts still needs to be painted.
There's also a lot of cleaning to be done, most of it dust from sanding the putty.

Overview

Left backside.

Right backside.

Frontside, right, one PE-part must still be fixed.

Frontside, left, also a clear view on that thing that keeps the tracks clean, it achieved 12 PE-parts.

Overall picture.

Cylinders with PE and a valve.

Buffer beam.

Buffer beam.

And still the buffer beam.

Dryfit.

Hi Erik.
Great start with the BR52. I have this in the stash to build some day, so I´ll be following your blog for tips and ideas.
Thanks for the link to you site with the other builds, but it needs a log in and password to actually see them. Tried to register (using babblefish), but it didn´t recognise your name as a reference? Can you help me please?

Hi again. Thanks for the help to get registered. I´ll definatly be following these builds.
I like the idea to have a seperate thread for links. Dont have the time at the moment to get lost there ... will have to wait to the weekend for that. Cheers.

Hi folks.

At last I found some buildingtime.
There are still some pictures from the previous stage that I have to post, they come, I promise.

This is a piece build out of the box.

And this is how it looks with aftermarket parts.
A lot bigger.

Some small shoddy work. Needs still a lot of work

The boiler wall with some PE.

The plastic floor pimped with some real wood.
It needs a clear varnish.

Dry-fit

But the toughest is yet to come.
To be continued.

After more then two years in the freezer it's finally back on the workbench.
Start working on the boilerwall/cabine interior.
It's a lot of PE, but it's fun to build.
Sometimes I talk to the Lord, but it all comes together.
Pics follow soon.

Building goes well.
But sometimes I build a few hours and forget to take pictures
For a building log not so fine, I know.
But here are some pics.

It needs a little work, some glue must be removed and other smal things.
First two pics, you can see some paint, it's just for testing.

This need some sanding and get rid of the ejectormarks.
This is a dryfit.

Good to see this "back on track" again Erik (pun intended)
What aftermarket parts are you using? The original images only show Eduard etch ... does the resin piece come with that?

They are indeed in the Eduard boxes.
Resin for the cabin and some breaks are also in resin.

A smal update.
Little paintjob.
Started on the tender.
You can see some parts on the tender are removed.
I didn't know about the PE set that moment.
Now I've got one and some parts need to be replaced.

See you next time.
