Hi guys,
Ive already placed my nominees for user of the month, but while i was thinking on who i'd like to nominate i had an idea. Basically i realised that theres a lot of users in the foreign forums who dont understand english and because of this are "stuck" (for want of a better word) in the native language forums. Because of this i think they are in someway excluded from this prestigious award and so i came across the idea of maybe expanding the User of the month award a little. What I propose is that for the foreign language forums (i.e not english) we have a user of the site award for each language.
This is not to replace this award but to run along side it and allow the guys that dont have another language to gain some recognition for their support. Obviously the only people that could vote for this would be the people that speak portugese if in that form, russian in that etc. It would by the same rules as this one and i think just bring us that little closer.
Well, what do you think? I'd be interested to hear from some of the guys that speak more than one language and check in on those forums? (Roadkill, Faust etc)
Just an idea anyway.

Great idea. I would have to make some modifications to the voting system but it could work.

Of course you realize that "British" English will not qualify as another language.

hehe

I will await some further feedback on this from our non-native English users to see if this is something they would like to tackle. The other thing we would need would be a regional hobby store that might do the award/prize.

Cheers,
Jim

Ok, here is my 2 cents as Dutch site editor.

In a way I like the idea but, there is a small problem.

For example:
The Dutch section has at this point 123 registered members and of those 123 there a about 10-15 active contributors
The German section has 41 registered members and a handful of active members.

What I am trying to say is that I am worried that that kind of nominations/awards would lose its function in such small groups (after a while everybody has it and any newcomer is automatically up for nomination)

What I started to do is announce the start of the UOM nomination phase in the Dutch section and linked it to the topic in Site Talk Forum. I am planning to also announce the start of the voting and who has won it.

This seems a bit more effective to me

Like I said,

Just my 2 cents

I understand the problem there Ronny perhaps this could encourage more people to return to the site. I acme up with the idea for that purpose really and i always see sniper soldier posting but unfortunately his posts are in portugese so it seems a little unfair that when he is a regular poster and i have nodoubt that he passes on a wealth of information he will get very little votes if not nominated at all because of a language barrier. IWe could possibly get round this by offering a user of the month award for these forums on a three or two monthly basis until numbers increase.
