Lots of Tiger I posts at the moment so let me add to the confusion

The 2010 modeling year got rolling on Saturday with the start of the Dragon Tiger I initial production in 1/72. I have the 3 in 1 kit in 1/35 and spent some time comparing the detail and parts to each other. The 1/72 kit is nothing short of amazing.

The build is nearly done. I textured the jack block and wired the headlights and the smoke launchers. The smoke launchers themselves are made from some 1/16 aluminum tubing that was chucked in the Dremel and the OD reduced in size then drilled out. The hatches got some latch handles made form scrap PE fret.

If you want constructive criticism, read on:

The tops of the stowage bins were level with the turret roof.

The standard track toolbox was stowed alongside the jack block, on two triangular supports.

Thanks David. The turret is an easy fix. Any chance you have a photo of the track tool box?

There are plenty of photos, all Tigers carried it one place or another until late 1943. Here are the dimensions. The inner two clasps are not seen on all examples:

You may want to check the wiring.

Actually David I saw that on oyur site and had it on the list of things to fix.

The storage bins are now correctly even with the top of the turret. The wiring (hard to see in these pics) now comes out of the top of the turret just behind the mounting bracket. The jack blocked had to be cut off and moved over a tiny bit for everything to fit. Since the block is molded on it left a hole that needed to be partially filled. The brackets and straps are made from lead foil and scrap PE.

Thanks Dani. It would be really eerie of we all built the same thing for the 2nd build of the year. I know what mine is going to be

I am at that "Light at the end of the tunnel" stage. Once again, all MIG pigments for the weathering except for pin wash and dry brush. Tracks are next and painting some of the small details.

Marc,

Again I am late to add my comments to your build . . . errr. I had been busy fighting a head cold. I like what you have been doing with this tiny beast. I will be upgrading my build with the track tool box and jack block and I like the brackets that you have built for these items. The discharge candle holders on the sides of the turret turned out terrific as well as the other brass made parts. The painting looks really good so far. Will you be adding any figures to this build or placing it on a small dio?

Keep posting, I'm watching.

I just said basically the same thing other in your thread

I am going to be making the corrections David suggests as well. Kit only comes with 1 pry bar so that means making 2 so they are the same, as you did. The cutters are already glued down so they may have to stay in the wrong place. I’ll see what it looks like when I take them off. IF I can take them off.

And yes there will be 3 figures and a small base. Michaels has a little wood plaque that is perfect for 1/72

The vehicle is done. I will start to work on the 3 figures and the base soon. All comments welcome.

Thank yo to Eddy and David for their running commentary on this kit. I made the mods as they discussed except that I cound not move the wire cutters to the front of the deck so I iwll have to live with that.

Marc,

You and Eddy have done superb jobs on you're respective Tigers. They really in a sense compliment each other. Your attention to picky detail is disgusting. Did you have to do major surgery on the rear idler? My F13 is currently in a state of limbo as I anguish and dwell on how to repair/modify that part that I glued prematurely.

Again, great job.

Cheers,
Jan

Thnaks Jan.

I did the smae thing. I cut them off with a JLC saw then drilled holes for a pin to make them "adjustable" again.

Marc,

Now that looks like its been pounding around in some dirt just after some light rain! I wouldn't worry about the cutters as I was planning on leaving mine in just the same spot, aside from the storage bins, keeping Tiger 100 unique in that way.

Marc,

Just going to continue with upgrading my Tiger I and place it on a small diorama. Looking to order a book on diorama scenery, I'm very weak in that area and could use all of the help I can get. Would you know of a good title? Now waiting to see how your base will turn out.

Any help you could give me with a title would be appreciated!

Just looked at Brailles' build and now there is this one. You guys make me sick. I haven't been on in a while and then I see things like these builds and I just want to give up. It's both beautiful and personally depressing.
