Hi guys
first post of a new decade for me is a work in progress. Tamiya's 1/35 Citroen having a bad day in, what will be, a street fighting vignette.

The base is from SB models and after initial painting looked like this. This totally out of the packet with nothing but paint added.

Added to the base were

1/35 Bricks from Great North Roads
Roofing tiles from Plusmodel
Resin windows from Verlinden
Carpet from Plusmodel
A Hotel sign from Verlinden
Scraps of wood from various places picked up over time and shoved in a spares box.
"Glass" made from clear packaging cut up with scissors
..and a variety of Mig pigment powders.

Scenario is that after being destroyed during heavy fighting the car has been rammed out of the way, to clear a path for troops, hence the mangled front wing and suspension.
The space at the front of the base will eventually have some figures, a foot patrol, passing by the Citroen.
But that's all for now

Super job with that Citroën!
I love the weathering and rusting effect!
Hope you share with us some more pics of your progress.

Cheers

Nice composition and good rubble. The citroen looks nicely damaged, my one critique is that the chrome is too bright. It looks like the car has gone through a lot and the chrome doesn't match the wear and tear.

Nice! I've been toying with the idea of a street-scene in either germany or france for a future build, and this will certainly be the standard I'm going to be shooting for.

For that damaged Citroen, did you melt the plastic with heat to get the crumpled sections?

Hey Paul I love all that you have done here! You have a good eye for balance and the right amount of everything.
I agree the chrome work is a little stark.
You suggested that the car was rammed out of the path of troops etc; would it pay to show some wheel marks through the brick rubble, say where the front wheels have locked up or have been forced sideways?
I really look forward to further progress here mate. Good stuff

looks really great! I agree that the chrome is too shiny though, especially if this vehicle has been in this state for some time. Perhaps some chipping showing rust underneath would look good? On the other hand, if the damage was only caused a few days ago or less then the finish is appropriate. In that case, perhaps some scratches and scrapes would help.

Very effective damage to the car Paul. Looks great. I like the composition, and look forward to seeing it with the figures added. Nice one.

Yo Paul,

Very nice setting. Nice groundwork and very nice rubble and dust...did you fix the pigments wet or is it just added dry with a brush?

More chipping yes, also I should ad the door that is now missing to the dio...the more detail the better. Maybe on the sidewalk behind the car you can add a broken street lamp to creat some hight.

Follow this one!

Thanks to all who have replied and for all the positive feedback and suggestions.

Some answers

Most of the damage to the roof and bonnet/hood was done with heat. But the front right fender was cut off and replaced with one made from foil which was then crumpled by simply pushing it into the surface of the work bench.

Yes i think all those who say the chrome needs work are right, it needs chipping and scratching.

Great idea to put scuff marks and scrapes where the car has been pushed, they will be added.

Most of the pigment on the base is fixed by using Mig's own pigment fixer, just a little dry brushed on for a dusty look. rubble and larger pieces are fixed to the car with little blobs of matt varnish to avoid the glossy look of adhesives then dry pigment was scattered over to help conceal it further and give a thicker layer of dry dust.

cheers, Paul

Looks good, but I agree the chrome needs ro be toned down some. Can't wait to see the figures.

Is the Citron supposed to be burnt-out? If that's case, wouldn't the tires be burnt/melted away? If not, maybe some flat tires would be effective. To me, they just stand-out as way too undamaged for a car that's so beat-up otherwise.

Not a bad point, it wouldn't take much to 'flatten' those tires, the hardest part being how to support the model while you do it.

This why I love this site....to see the way you took a piece of plastic and made it look like twisted metal is just fantastic! I will surely be following this project.

Actually, although it doesn't really show in the above photo's both front tyres are flat. Only the passenger cabin has burnt, not reaching the tyres.
This picture shows the right side tyre more clearly

I wanted a partly burnt out car so the colours would show it was a civilian, not military, vehicle.
this reference show that even on a fully burnt out car the rubber of the tyres does not always burn away.

Hope that clears things up a bit.
cheers
