I read on another site that DML has discontinued (as in no plans to release new Gen2 sets) the Gen2 range of figures. Can anyone confirm this?

It'd be a real tragedy if this is true - it's bad enough they seem to have abandoned their 1/16 line of figures.

With the introduction of GENII, they have brought attention back to their figures again, as well as doubling the price of their standard figures. Less work and more profit ... why would they continue?

I don't think they are very popular. Sure the equipment and weapons are terrific but look at the amount of parts and cleanup required to build one figure plus the two part heads were a turn off for me. On top of that look at the price.

My LHS owner told me that among general modelers they weren't selling well because they felt they were over engineered and too much hassle to build.

I can't say I will miss them except that I hope some of the kits are turned out as standard figures.

personnally I thought that they were pretty damn good apart from some of the lame poses and I did find it hard to place some of the equipment on the figures, especially the ammo pouches. As for the lots of parts, Isn't part of the modelling experience the putting together of the parts?
If they have stopped making Gen2 then I will miss all the extra equipment bits, as I've got a couple of hundred un-built figures to re-model and kit out! Now a big box of basic personnel equipment would be a good idea, you know , a bit like that old set but without all the extra, not used very often bits It would need to contain at least 4-5 sprues though.
Actually gen2 weapon sets would be a good idea too but with not so many open bolt bits and you can never have too many ammo belts!

Sure but that's not all it is about- for me it's about achieving a result and if I can do that by rescribing seam lines on uniforms and making undercuts with a number 11 blade rather than gluing umpteen parts together in as you say sometimes "lame poses" then I will and so I suspect will a lot of figure modelers.

That's my point even the weapons were over engineered. I think when DML see their ordinary 39-45 series figures selling well they have to question whether the effort of producing Gen2 sets is worth it. Especially since they will still have the option to produce "Premium" sets of the 39-45 series with GEN2 heads and weapons:)

I rather liked the Gen2 figures, didnt seem like too much of a hassle for me, just requires patience and glue. The weapons were my favorite in these kits. Alot of pieces but if built with patience, and skill the result can be great! But on the other hand the prices of these kits are shocking at times

I enjoyed the gen2 releases for the sculpting quality BUT my issue was the equipment. Not it's quality but fit. Master box created individually sculpted equipment for fit something I wish dml could replicate.

As a big fan of Gen2 figures, if this confirms to be true, it will be very disappointing for me. I think they are great figures. Well, I hope Dragon will continue producing their Premium series.

I always liked Gen2 Figures, never found them to be all that tough to do. I do like the weapons though, frankly, nice to have an open bolt or two .

Hope they reconsider.

Gen 2 were great, but didn't like the two piece heads, anyway just replace with resin heads. Now... if only one of the big boys could do that - offer styrene figure sets with resin heads; should sell well I think.

It would be nice, but I can't see it happening. Seems to me that the big styrene companies and the resin / AM guys are in a symbiotic relationship, with their respective production and marketing set-ups geared accordingly.

So, with all due respect to those that posted above (I appreciate your comments. For the record, I'm in the camp that really like the Gen2 figures - best plastic figures I've seen to date and easy to convert from the basic poses), nobody here can confirm what I'm treating as a rumour?

It seems to me that they're discontinued, but the old sets are still in production. It seems that they are happy with "Gen 1.5" - which is unfortunate because they don't come with nearly all of the spares! Mind you, I haven't heard anything to confirm this, but I'm not expecting any new ones.
