What color should I paint the brick road and the surrounding area?. The setting is supposed to be France before the Allied Invasion.

I would paint it grey and then apply several brown washes. In the end I would add some light colored (i.e. beige) drybrushing and pastel chalks.

There will be loads of different answers to this as everybody has their own method.
I would usually start with all black and then dry brush the whole thing in different shades of grey, getting lighter all the time. The black or dark brown washes. Then i would pick out cobblestones at random and paint with different colours of grey and even stone yellow and browns ... much like painting bricks on a wall.
When its all complete give it all a very light drybrush of the same light grey to tie it all together.

Brown/gray is what I usually see. If you think about it - it makes sense. Rocks will run the gray scheme and being a road it gets dirty and brown.

The two previous posts are excellent methods. No real need to add more other than to agree.
