Hey guys,
With the long weekend I've been going through my stash of half finished projects to find something to finish up. I cobbled this "Good Morning Vietnam" theme together with what I had.
It took a while, but I'm finally happy with the composition on the left (palm tree and Bayardi "pisser" figure) and the placement of the M113.
The stuff on the right side has me stuck. Here are a few shots I took while brainstorming.
Photo 1: I'm not too crazy about the guy with the crossed arms attempting to wake up the sleeping fellow. Maybe replace the guy in the far right corner with some bushes.
Photo 2: To add a little more life and some action I thought about adding a mule for some resupply.
Photo 3: Just trying to use some more figures from the stash. There probably should only be a total of 5 or 6 figures.
Photo 4: Some of the random non-fighting/at rest Vietnam figures that I've got laying around.
So, any thoughts or ideas on how to tie things together a little more?
Thanks,
Sherb

Here is one more from what will be the front of the diorama. This might be my favorite so far.
Photo 5: Gotta rework the mule a bit and get the guy to sit a little better. Maybe ditch the guy standing in the middle.
Of course I have plenty of little extras (weapons, ammo boxes, rations etc.) to toss in there as well

Is this going to be set in a jungle grove ,by a building , or a fire base with trenches and bunkers ?, I feel that with the figures being relaxed ie , sleeping and washing up this could be in a secure fire base . Lots of barrels and supplys , sandbags , barbed wire and a tin shelter or two . It might help place the figures better if you had some idea as to the setting . Just flats out of cardboard to get a better handle on the scene. JIm

I'd have to agree with Jim. Thinking about the other stuff will help lead you to where everything else fits.
I'd keep the figures in the sleeping bags away from the 113s ramp. They wouldn't want to kip down where they'd get disturbed by people coming and going, and getting trodden on all the time. Some sort of cover would be handy in case Charlie started lobbing mortar rounds in, some may have even decided to bed down in the Track. But anyway I think they'd prefer sleeping under at least a poncho shelter (for a little privacy and keep the light out)and/or mossie nets if in a firebase setting.

Jim, Tom, thanks for the replys. The idea was for a night defensive position, or rather the morning after. Basically just a clearing in the jungle, fairly simple groundwork, just some minor scruff.

I had some more elaborate ideas in mind--multiple M113s and or a sandbagged rimmed foxhole with a tarp overheard. Just wanted to keep it simple so I would actually finish it.

Ok ,the 113 off to one side ,shelter attached to track ,couple of guys under it ,sleeping or just waking up.. Guy taking a leak on off side of track . Writing name in dust ? Mule pulling up with ammo ,mail or maybe hot chow. Guy at rear of 113 washing up. Someone on some sort of guard duty ,maybe on top of 113. Couple of mongal dogs around garbage ?Maybe one pissing on palm tree ?
Thats all I got ... Jim

Jim you are right on it. If it is away from a fire base, there would have to be some body on guard. Probally on the main gun. Plus another guy on the top watching out also. The lean-to off the side of the M113. Then you can have, the guys waking-up, cleanig up ,taking a leak or whater else.

From my experience on 113s and Bradleys...the best place to sleep on on the radiator. It's fairly flat, no bugs, and warm. Aside from a 50 cal or 25mm over you head it can't be beat! Most drivers would sleep in their seat by stashing gear behind the seat to make a bed to lay on. The commander may take the radiator to sleep on, if not a dismount (grunt), such as myself, would always take it. Often the ramp wouldn't be lowered completely, it would be lowered a foot or so off the ground propped up by an ammo crate or water can. Being level and again off the ground you now have a place for 2 more men to sleep.
