Howdy,
I came across these on panzer35.ru. (here is link) They are BTR-70/80 wheels and hubs. They look great. The translation is horrible. Who makes them and where do I get some? Thanks, Ryan

You're talking about these, right?

I believe SP Designs makes them. SPD066 is the item number. I've been meaning to order them for my Zvezda BTR-80A kit. However, I don't know which trustworthy online store sells it.
www.historicahobbies.com seems to have them in stock.

This is a question for the community, has anyone ordered from Historicahobbies? How is it?

I beleive that Jacques has these over at SAAM. If I remember rightly he has both the armoured and un armoured wheels.

If you are going to order from Tiger Models, you'd better do it before 3/31. https://armorama.kitmaker.net/news/6124
The store is closing on 3/31

My best guess is that they are indeed SP Designs wheels. You can buy them from either Historicabooks or directly from me.

While Tiger Model Designs wheels are seperate wheels and hubs, they are no more accurate thatn SP Designs wheels. They are still based on DML's narrow, square edged wheels and to be honest, there are NO after market wheels out there that are not based on DML's wheels.

I recomend myself, (as you might guess Ryan ) and Andy at Historica Books is highly recomended as well.

BTW, when are you going to finish the 2S9? Aren't you almost done?

These seem wider and rounder. I have a set of SP's and they are the same as DML set.

Jacques, I will be finishing up the 2S9, 1V118 , 2S1 and as well as my "Navy Seals" Btr-152. in the next week. This unemployed thing has let me get a lot done! lol

I am looking into it. So far as I can tell either Capitan wheels are being copied or else someone has just recently started to make new castings.

I will report any findings here!

The wheels are from Capitan, probably ex-capitan. Not sure how available they will be. If anyone can get me a set...

Capitan? Not heard of them before, where are they based?

I'll be starting a BTR-70 soon and I'm also looking for good aftermarket wheels. I was planning to get the SP designs ones, but these photos are really taking my interest...

They might be from Kapitan of Russia.Kind of look like SP designs in grey resin. Miniarm is releasing their BTR-60/80(non A) and BRDM-2 wheel sets any day now, something to chose from.

Kapitan...Capitan...I have seen it labelled as both. Oh well.

It also looks like (C)Kapitan is long Out Of Business, so my guess is either they are starting over, or someone made/got ahold of molds and is using them as a starting product.

BTW, Kapitan made a 2S23 conversion, a BTR-80 KShM conversion, and IIRC two sets of BTR wheels that were impossible to get when they wer around (back when ModelpointUS was a good place to buy from AND they were importing these kits). However, the Kapitan kits were supposedly not up to the same casting level as a contemporary SP Designs kit, so that may explain why they disappeared.

Still, I would love to get my hands on those wheels.

NOW THAT's the kind of BTR-80 wheels I'm looking for!!! :-) Look! The hub even has the intricate raised radial web patterns! I'm a big fan of open hubs. The profile certainly looks a lot better than what I've seen so far!... Now comes the tricky question WHO SELLS THEM?? Historica Hobbies? SP?

Hope they come up with the FAT boy version too!
