Hi all,
Does anyone know if celluclay is available in the UK and if so, where I can get it. Or is there a good substitute for it?

Regards Paul

Paul don't even bother trying to find Celluclay in the UK, just put old news papers through a shredder and use that instead.. Why do this? It's free and in these days of everyone telling us to recycle it's eco friendly.

Thanks Darren! Anything for free and Im 1st in the queue.
What else do I add to it and in what ratios? I was going to use it for a few dioramas that I had in mind.
Thanks for the info,
Paul

TheEuropean name for it is Papydor or some like that. if you try a good art shop they may well have it. look around the net or ebay there will be sellers there. that is where I got mine from.
Cheers for now

celluclay isn't the same as just shredded paper. I have tried that before and it's nothing like the real stuff. I got mine here a few weeks ago. 5Ib is a big heavy bag, which i can see lasting for several years. I also tried a product called claycrete which is much lumpier and won't form a paste like celluclay will, so i don't reccomend it. That website is very quick by the way, it took just under two days after ordering for it to arrive.

I believe celluclay is just pulped paper which is wood pulp that has not been laid out to form sheets of paper. newspaper when shredded by machine is a close match due to newspaper being recycled paper anyway. I placed the shredded paper in a large bin added plenty of water and then used a paint stirer on an electric drill to help break down the bonds, remove the mulch and squeeze out the water and allow to dry for storage. when you want to use the paper mix with water and PVA glue (you do not need a lot of glue to water). If you have a paper mill near you it may be possible to avoid the messy stage and buy the pulped paper from them dry.

I dunno. paper pulp isn't quite the same to work with. It won't form a paste properly and just tends to form into lumps. Celluclay once mixed is almost exactly the same as real clay, it forms a smooth paste. I'm not saying paper pulp isn't as good, just that it isn't the same and you will get different results with it.

That is possible Luke as I have always been to tight to purchase the product at that price to compare.

I've got some celluclay and although you can see paper in there, it also contains some form of plaster material - paper on its own it certainly isn't!

However, Sculptmold is available in the UK (my local art store has it), a decent sized bag isn't very expensive and unless you're regularly doing huge dioramas, a little will go a long way.......
