Recently picked up a conversion that turns Tamiya's jeep to Pattons command Jeep. Would like to know what types of vehicles were his escort when traveling from place to place. I am assuming some Harley motorcycles. Anything else ??

Jeff Shaara's well researched novels/trilogy (I finished it last night) on the Second World War focus a great deal on Patton. He mentions jeeps with guys on .50's as Patton's escorts, but makes no mention of motorcycles. He makes several references of Patton being in traffic jams with jeeps around him, deuce and a halves loaded with troops or towing artilery, but never of an MC escort.

I recently finished Carlo D'Este's Patton: A genius for war, which I highly recommend by the way. He mentions half tracks being used also. Then there was the stand staff car, as well as the WC 57 Command Car.

Patton had a habit of showing up unannounced all over the place at any time, in all sorts of vehicles.

I never heard of a motorcycle escort, in fact, given the difference between a military convoy and a Presidential Motorcade, I can't see where motorcycles would have been all that much help. Frankly, Patton often traveled alone, with his close staff, in a couple of jeeps or his command car. His driver once said, and Patton agreed, that it was just the two of them for much of the Bulge. For all his show, Patton could be a remarkably simple man who liked to travel fast and light. My father saw Patton a couple of times during the war, said that he aside from the uniform, he looked like everybody else, just cleaner and with a shve.
