I have made mention of this in another forum but I just have to say it again!

During construction of my first armour model I found I was handling the model a lot while doing the detailing. My technique is to build the basic subassemblies and then get the tracks temporarily fitted so I have a model that looks like an AFV to work on.

When I had got the Chieftain to the track stage I had a search through the attic and found an old Garrard record player deck. I dismantled it, fitted the spigot to a piece of MDF, and Voila! a free moving work platform.

I have had the Chieftain sitting on it permantly for weeks and find it absolutely brilliant when doing detailing as it is so easy to get the model positioned just where you need it to fit a part.
When fitting scratchbuilt parts it is easy to compare from side to side, and also to position the model in the same relative position as your reference photo.

It has to be the best value for money tool I have! Plus it is a source of inspiration because when I get stuck I just sit and spin the model round in front of me till I get the urge to tackle the next bit!

Regards Dave :-)

Cool idea Kiwi,

BFWIW, I just stick a big piece of resin onto the bottom (out-of-site) whereby after I am finished, I can break it off and touch it up a bit. The lowere spot does not show unless there is some IPMS &*%^*%* with one of those dinky mirrors.
