Hi Guys, I'm looking at doing a WW2 dio and wondered what everybody thought of Masterbox figures, as they have a couple of sets that would fit into my diorama idea.

Thanks
Paul.

From what I've seen and used I'd recommend them. They are very lively and price/quality wise excellent!

Ola Paul

I think Masterbox figures are grat... Affordable and you get some terrific poses with them.
Out of the box they will built up to nice figures and will look really nice when painted as well.
I usually swap heads for a resin one.
Here is an example of what I finished a year ago. Masterbox figure with a resin head

And these two I'm currently working on... again Masterbox figures with resin heads and some slight altering underway

You will get a lot of info from the link that Rudi posted you. And a lot of pictures what is in the box.

Hi Paul,

Is there any other reasons you are just considering Masterbox figures? They are good but there are still many other choices. Dragon (may be more expansive but many to choose from), Miniart (a new force in injection figures) and the more conservative Tamiya figures.

I usually select from different brands to get the best (or most suitable) figures from them.

Regards
Paul

They aren't as good as newer Dragon figures but you can compare it to those from around 2000. Their poses and the price are unbeatable in my opinion.

Momann I don't fully agree with you. Some of their early sets are hard work, but I have only heard and seen good things in their latest sets. They have come a long way in a very short time as regards quality.

Like Darren I disagree with the first part of your statement. Take a look at their set German Signals Personnel It's eqaul to any set Dragon have produced even upo to now. The second part of your statement I fully endorse. The really clever thing Masterbox do with their figures is they make the equipment to fit not to sit on top of the figure like Dragon equipment.

Paul tell us what sets you're consiudering.

The only reason I decided to look at Masterbox was basically the box-art. Daft maybe, but if thats the finished product you can get, then this is why.

I looked at Tamiya figures last year and after asking on here was told that some of the WW2 figures where not very good and needed alot of cleaning up...

Haven't really investigated Dragon, but I want to do a lot of research into the setting, figures, armour groundwork etc...

I've just got to finish my M1a1 dio, but I've been a bit stale over the past few months and can't be bothered digging everything out to finish it!!

Paul being in the UK I would suggest you take a look at the groundwork products Anthony at Treemendus produces. The trees are the best I have seen to date and I have purchased several items from him which I am very pleased with, I also recieved excellent customer service.

Masterbox sets are preety good. I have five sets but have only built the U.S. paratroopers. The only problem I had was fitting the arm to the figure and getting it to sit right on the strap of the otherfigure that joins them. Am currently doing the U.S. infantry set and again the figure laying down and being assisted bu the other trooper is a hard fit, but will work with tweaking. Dollar for dollar, I recomend them. Have four other figure sets and am looking forward to those builds. D.M.L. figures are not bad either. Head swaps will improve them, and dollars for dollar, another good buy I.M.H.O. Masterbox figures are usually very annimated while D.M.L. tend to be more static.

I'm a new fan of Masterbox figures. As far as detail, they give Dragon a run for their money. As their popularity grows their quality should further improve. However, to me their advantages arein the poses and subject matter. In general, I think that they have served as motivation to Dragon and other plastic figure makers that "in-action" posed figures do not have to be the norm.
