One of the pleasanter surprises from
Tamiya a year or so ago was the announcement of the Austin ''Tilly'' in quarter-scale. Now, a
COMPLETELY new kit, in 1/35th. Images of this VERY welcome New Release, can be seen:

Attention !!!
For all you Dutch model fanatics !!
It seems that this model bears the markings of the Dutch Royal Princess Irene Brigade,
an infantry unit that was made up of Dutch volunteers, that fled from Holland to join up with the British Army in England !
To all of us Dutch an absoluty must !!!!

If it goes together as well as most Tamiya kits and is accurate it should sell well. The curves look well rendered.

Tamiya has done a lot of "down-scale" of 1/35 to 1/48 in the past few years and this one may be the first going the other way. The 1/48 Tilly kit was released just a few months ago and now it is "up-scale" to the more conventional 1/35 scale. Should see more coming if this one sells quickly. e.g. the Crusader variants in 1/35 scale would be nice.

Please, read the comments in the News Report. It is a COMPLETELY new tooling in 1/35th scale which was based on seperate research. It WASN'T up-scaled from the 1/48th model - it has nothing to do with the quarter-scale kit whatsoever. You seem to be implying that this is the case, it certainly WASN'T...
On a positive note - all Kudos to Tamiya (who have been targets of my 'wrath' on several occasions) with this, the Matilda and one or two other recent releases which have somewhat restored my faith. Personally, i'd love to see Tamiya getting back up there where they belong. It should help make the other manufacturers more aware as well...

Oh WONDERFUL...I came home from last years AMPS with the Accurate Armor resin kit of this.
Guess I'll put it right next to my Jordi Rubio resin Kfz.13 kit in the stash, in the "Superseded By Styrene" section.
I've got a really crappy resin Panzerfahre kit that I'd love to see in styrene - Bronco are you listening?
Was the Austin Tilly really 10 horsepower? How did it move it's own weight?! My snowblower has more horses than that!!!
Best,
Matt

Having edited
Al's review of the Accurate Armor resin Tilly, I'm pumped to get one of these for a more modest dent in my ca$h.
The only issue I see is the canvas top: few styrene makers can really get that right.

Hi Bill,
That's was Stefan's review on the Hillman Tilly

. I did build the Accurate Armour Austin Tilly kit though:

So delighted to see this out in plastic.

I suppose you could take the head from one of the Kelly's Heroes kits out there. Of course you'd have to figure out a way to shave him.
I'm happy to see this kit coming. I was tempted to get the 1/48 scale kit that has the Mosquito and a Tilly, and I may still, but 1/35 is really more my line. The fact it's developed specifically as 1/35 makes it just that much better.

Sorry, Al, I've edited so many of your reviews, I've lost track, LOL!

Damn it! Yesterday my expensive resin Tilly and Kfz. 13 kits become redundant (see my post above), and today I see that Hobby Boss have consigned my $100+ resin kits of the Leopard and Panzerfahre to the same "Superseded By Styrene" pile!
I'll just make a list of all of my $80 - $150 resin kits, so you guys will know what's coming out in styrene!
Damn I'm angry!
I know I'm over reacting, but 4 "treat myself" resin kits issued in plastic in 2 days? How much can a guy take?

Matt

If you can find the Kelly's Heros set in resin. You'd have to modify the hair but that is the only Donald Sutherland I have ever heard of.

You better start cranking that resin kit pile out before it's too late!

Hi Bill, no worries

, I'll certainly be getting a couple of these.
A very useful link is the Tilly register for the different Makes.
http://www.tillyregister.com/ Michael Shackleton who runs the Register was involved in the development project so this one shows a lot of promise.
Cheers

Hi, Matt, the same thing happened to me when Trumpeter and DML brought out Sd.Kfz.7s. I had ancient Tamiya ones in the stash and promptly dumped them. But resin kits are sometimes a better bet in the end for detailing and even accuracy, as you know.

You're right Bill, and odds are the resin kits will still be superior. I DID wish for the styrene Panzerfahre, though, as the resin kit is a warped blob ridden POS. So that's a positive.
