OK guys, need some more advice on some marking that I am looking at in some recent news reports. As you can see:

This is a recent shot of the made by the USArmy at some recent activity on a house in Iraq (Yippee ). My question is, can anyone explain the markings of the "34" with the cheveron's above and below??????

TIA,
Dave

The 34 means that this is a D Company vehicle from whichever battalion this division assigns as the "3" battalion. Not familiar with the 101st infantry units to be able to speculate which one it could be.

The chevrons are interesting. In armor and mech units, there is one to designate which platoon it belongs to, i.e. left, up, right, down signifies 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Maybe the up and down chevron signify the anti-armor platoon? This is just a SWAG on my part though.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the insight. I am familuar with the modern markings, but not as well verse as Russian markings. So this is why I posted the question.

BTW, I did send a note the 101 site to ask them the same question. Yes, as this is some of the action that the 3ID and 4ID have the full units there, it could be from an armored unit.

Again, thanks for the info.

Dave
