Hi Tazz
I have encountered this very same problem. Tamiya paints, when hand brushed, do tend to dry very fast! I though, would not mix any alcohol into the original bottle. I would only mix some with a small amount that is removed for a painting session. This way you keep the most paint fresher longer. I have solved this problem for myself by using, Winsor & Newton’s Acrylic Flow Improver, or any brand of an Acrylic Retarder. This smoothes out the paint flow, and slows drying times. I have found that alcohol does not help me extend drying times.

I've found that if I regularly clean the brush and keep it moist, that the Tamiya paint tends to work better. I'm not sure why the paint dries so fast in the brush, but keeping it clean definately helps.

It dries so fast because it's alchohol based. Adding more alchohol will thin it out, but won't extend the drying time since it will still evaporate just as fast. You need to use an acrylic extender to slow the drying as tek2 suggested. I found mine at Micheals craft store with the craft paint (go figure :-) )
