Some of you may be noticing some odd things in the Latest Posts area. The default page is now a cached snapshot of this info that gets refreshed every five mintutes or so. There are some tremendous advantages to this approach in terms of database resources and bandwidth. Until I get all the details worked out though it may be a bit clunky. Latest post info for Opt-In forums like DSB, the Junk Drawer, and others will not currently show up on this page. I will try to work out a seperate link that you will be able to access from this page to see those posts. I will state this now so that people aren't suprised when they try to link to this dynamic version of this page and the URL keeps changing (I will install some kind of keycode variable to make sure the URL is never the same).... I don't want people linking to this dynamic page as their Armorama homepage. In fact I wish that everyone who currently has this page bookmarked as their Armorama homepage would change it. I hate to sound like a picky web designer but their is only one homepage on this site. It's www.armorama.com!
If anyone has any questions or feedback about this please fire away. I know this stuff is kind of technical at times, but believe me even with a dedicated host we are still maxing out our memory because of pages like this (and the homepage but I am going to flatten parts of that too just like the Latest Posts page).
Cheers,
Jim

Whatever is best for the site in my opinion. I like the fact that it refreshes.

Traversing a few thousand threads to look for latest posts drains a lot of system resources. Imagine this multiplied by a dozen users clicking the "Latest Posts" link every few seconds

Roger that Jim.
As for my opinion about all of this, I share the thoughts of Tin_Can.
Being involved at work in bandwiths, server capacity and all of that, I can only say that you are absolutely right about it.

Thanks for clearing that up Jim. I replied this morning and didn't see the reply listed for a few minutes, even tho my reply was actually there.
We took a serious power hit here at work this morning... screwed everything up... servers world wide went out, and I thought that the Armorama visual problem was at this end. #:-)
I never did loose my connection to Armorama!
Do what ever you need to do man!

At least he's honest! :-)
I'd noticed that something happened with the latest posts page. It made me slightly nervous with the last topic I posted. Spent 15 minutes typing it up, hit the 'add new topic' button, checked the latests posts page....
...My typing effort was gone (I thought)!
5 minutes later, it was back.
Now that I know what's going on, I won't have a heart attack every time I post. (which could be detrimental to my health )
